I have an XFX 6600 GT (AGP), and yeah, it does lag on some stuff. Bard songs not so much, only in Dynamis really. Firaga 3 always lags. I think it's just due to bad game programming on the FFXI end, not any deficiencies of the card. 6600 GT is an excellent card overall, especially if you have 1 gig of system RAM to back it up. Personally, I think they were just poorly executed effects on Squenix's end (maybe bad algorithm to make the particle effects for Firaga or something). Nothing wrong with the card itself.

I just edited the original post to think of a workaround. For those people who know about .datfile editing, I know removing certain stuff from ingame is possible. What files / things should I remove the Firaga effects? I'd probably just replace it with a katon: ichi animation or something, which doesn't lag. I also was wondering if it would be possible to change the WS player animation - not the WS, but the pre-ws when the character is readying the weaponskill, where the small circles all explode off from the char, to something like the limit break animation from FF7 (you know, the red/yellow/orange glow)? A few mods for other games had been able to implement this into their mod, such as Bid For Power for Q3 and some DBZ mods for Q1 that I remember. I'll attach a picture to explain what i mean.. This would make it easier for me to see when people are using a WS, rather than directly looking for the chat log and the movement of someone's WS. I'm pretty sure this is possible, any bit of information is appreciated. |

I also had this problem, it happened when I installed the latest driver. I found that I was lagging when Bards songs were sung, Firaga, and when there were critical hits being made by either me or the mob. I rolled back the driver to the previous one that I was using and all is fine again.

yeah I have this problem too, I used not to lag, but I do now when bards do their thing and AOEs are cast......I think I fexed it by updateing to the latest version of DirectX (had 9.0a updated to 9.0c) ...but I have not fully tested it yet, I also stopped useing the Windower...thinking that may have cuase my lag issues

Guys, I fixed my own brd song and fire/Fire II/ Fire III/ Fire IV/ Firaga / Firaga II / Firaga III problem, simply by trying driver version 66.93 a second time.. there's basically no problems now!

I'd recommend trying driver version 71.89 at some point, maybe, anyone's still having problems. It doesn't completely eliminate it, but I think it's the best fit I've found so far for driver versions. The newer release is more oriented towards their new cards, and doesn't give the same caliber of performance on the 6000 series cards.
