LOL

It's a game. Like any other game, it's got rules (try explaining to a casino that your card counting/marking is merely overcoming and stretching their limitations). It's a challenge to stay WITHIN the guidelines of a game. If you can't stick within the guidelines of a game, it's called by definition, cheating. Simply getting away with it, doesn't make it any better or make you cool.

Alright here's my 2 cents on this:

First off, i hate gilsellers with a passion (yeah i know im not original). Let me explain the full impact of all this; First, those sellers camp NMs like mad to get gil to sell off to get real money: that in itself is prohibited by the game, lets just drop it at that for now. The fact that they camp those as hell and have most of the drops leaves the other players the (almost) only option to buy the item at AH. Because of this, since they have most of the items for themselves to sell, the ebayers more or less control the price of those items.

Now, this brings up yet another problem; people who relied on Nm hunting as their main way of making money are having difficulties gaining gil, which MAY make them think about actually buying gil online...see the pattern? its like a circle; itll just keep getting bigger.

Someone mentionned earlier that the price of gil is actually dropping at sites like IGN, which can indeed seem like a good sign, but itll prolly not be the case; people are persistent, if the price of the gil they deliver drops, they WILL attempt to bring up the price of the items at AH.

What i personally hate about all this, is the fact that normal players aren't able to paly the game to the full potential of it, considering the fact that if they want to have "pimp" equipment (mostly NM drops for mid to high-mid lvl), they will have to spend crazy amounts of time farming whatever they can come up with to buy a drop they could be hunting instead.

even if you consider ffxi as a hobby and say that you can put real money into it as you would on anything else, now think about the ordinairy people who play the game normally and dont have a lot of money in real life. The same thing happens as in real life; rich people get the best stuff. Think about it for a second. We play this game to have fun in a world different from our own, now if we bring the worst parts of our society into the game itll really turn bad...

I really hate the fact that because i dont like cheating in ffxi, and i dont have money to spend on gil in those stores, i have to pay like double the original price of certain items because of people who take advantage of that situation.

In fact the real problem is SquareEnix, since they do not do anyting to prevent this. I am not saying all this as to expect a change as much as to just let out my thoughts on this.

Gman and Faust (hey buddy! XD) also brought up good points in this.

Oh and Jynx_lucky_j.....you have no idea how that post made me laugh like mad XD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets try 7th grade civics, then. Society has rules in place (some would call them laws, or terms of service) to limit behavior which is damaging to either the individual or society as a whole. In a normal society, we follow the social contract. I've never signed a paper saying I'll abide by the laws of my city/state/country, but I'm still doing something illegal if I break those laws. You've gone one step further, as you've explicitly pledged to abide by the ToS, and then break it.

The fact that you've gotten away with breaking the laws or the tos doesn't make your actions any less illegal or cheaterly (good word).
You're whole arguement is flawed because you're assuming I'm the only one getting away with 'breaking the law.' And if you're so interested I havn't broken your law because I was graced with a gift from a friend when I started.

We're talking about AT LEAST 100 people on each server who buys gil. We know some of these people, we can plainly tell who some others are, and others get away with it unnoticied. SE has done nothing to enforce the ToS, and our friend Marx can explain what happens in the lack of authority.

Capitalism may not completely shape the real world's society, but you can't overlook the fact that it's what makes up half of FFXI. Marx argued that capitalism is a system based on profit and property. The need for the best equipment, and the money required to purchase it blends directly into Marx's theory.

Now I'm going to bring this all together so pay attention: In a capitalist economy people are earning profits by stepping on anybody they have to, these people are also known as the gil farmers and sellers. They're stepping on everybody and screwing with everything to make the largest profit they can. The people they step on, the global us, still need to make the gil. We can work for them or around them or beside them and make less gil then them, or we can look to other means of making our gil. With the lack of authority over buying and selling gil, what better way to make gil then to buy it?

Here's the kicker: Square-Enix has OK'd it for us with their lack of authortiy. If you're so inclined, look up the Broken Windows theory on Yahoo or something.

Don't tell me I suck at philosophy or sociology, because you have no idea what I can do with some old college books and this thing between my ears. If this doesn't make sense to you, either repeat your freshman year in college or just wait until you get there.

I agree about what you said although i really dont like it, but its not sure at 100% that because they arent doing anyting is because they agreed with people breaking the ToS; There's also the fact that they are actually working on this but we are just not aware of what they do.

SquareEnix is probably thinking hard about this problem and trying to find a solution, because they have a dilemma right now; cutting off the gil selling or keeping the accounts and the money that those people bring by having multiple accounts since some of them get banned eventually.

If they do nothing, then we can surely assume that they are bastards only interested in the money they are doing off the game and have no consideration ever for the "main stream" of players.

If SE drops the hammer, they're going to drop the hammer HARD. Prices will most likely drop on all items and players in general will be better equipped.

Then again they might do something small and insignificant that will hardly affect anything. I really hope they do something drastic to stop the farming of gil.

I may be arguing on the side of buyers and sellers, but it's affecting me just as much. Shihei is up to 6k a stack from 3k, and Mithkabobs jumped to 3.5k from 2k. It may seem small at first, but it adds up because these are the items I'm required to have for a successful party.

...

Wait a tick....

You're arguing on the side of gil selling/buying, yet you're complaining that you're being affected by it?
