ive got this program called skype its this awsome its like having a real phone but better its free and the quality is very good you can even run it while your playing final fantasy xi so you can chat to a buddy while your playing my name is zephar on it so add me and ring me up on it we can chat try and get a loads of ffxi players with pc microphones to get it

There is a well-known program called Team Speak , I prefer it over all others. Take a look.

TeamSpeak2 is very nice, i know a few people who have used ventrilo and like it, but i've never used ventrilo myself.

Ventrilo > Teamspeak if you only have a few people. (can only support 8) but if you have alot of people Teamspeak > Ventrilo as it cansupport up to 25~

i use both vent and TS a lot, i think voices come out clearer over TS than Vent, and the servers i use can support a lot more than 8 people....

a UT clan i was in for a while had a 32 person TS server running. was nice, you could make diff channels for different teams, or for the different games you were playing.

Do they have a Mac version? Me and my friend often use the phone when playing FFXI but he doesn't have a PC.

Skype is an incredible technology. I haven't used it in a while (actually, since beta release) but it was created by the original developers of KaZaA Media Desktop for PC and basically incorporates the same technologies into a voice chat application... meaning, yes, Skype is a peer-to-peer thing and your conversation can end up transferring itself through many computers on the network. It is however encrypted so you can't get into someone else's conversation without them knowing about it. Even on 56k, the sound quality is incredible and is definetly worth taking a look at.

Mac OS X version was just released the other day. I haven't tried it yet but if it's anything like the Windows version, then it'll be fantastic.

I wouldn't use Peer-to-Peer applications. It's almost as dangerous as file sharing. One of my friends had her a lot of numbers (bank card #, credit card #, phone #, friend's phone #) so on cause she was using Kazaa and someone connected to her computer while downloading a file off her and was able to browse threw her files. Whoever did it obviously knew the encryption and had a program to edit the packets sent back and fourth. Either way, never use Peer-to-Peer crap, there are geniuses out there waiting to steal your things =P

actually people can get info from you in many different ways, not just P2P. just depends on if ur smart enough to keep ur tracks cleaned and such
