DRG or MNK?
i started out as a mnk and loved the job, one of my favorites in FF games. however now i have unlocked DRG and gotten it to 29, i am starting to feel like mnk may be a better dmg dealing job. having a wyvern is cool but it just does not seem to help out enough. what do you guys think, would you go witha mnk or a drg for dmg dealing in a pt?

I'd say Mnk. For some reason mnk is not as popular as drg, and for that reason I've been able to party with Drg very often and only a few times with mnk. As far as damage Mnk seems to really dish it out while Drg seems more like another melee support job. Not trying to bash Drg here, I know alot of people love the job, but Mnk is probably one of the must underappreciated DD jobs in the NA community.

would you say a mnk does more overall dmg in a battle than a drg?

Try not to look at it as just who does the Most damage, bar any other consideration. The mentallity of picking which job does the most damage often makes a player end up with a job that he didn't really examine before picking and is now in a role that he isn't suited to.

Max damage per fight is not automatic for one class over the other, nor is it the most important factor. What gear, sub job, and playing prefrence of the player has much more to do with what someone brings to a party than if they are Job A instead of Job B. No one on the boards can really tell you which job is better, we can only tell you our experiences. And my experience is that i've partied with lots of DRG, but only a few mnks.

Be a MNK, DRG is very hard to level 60+ (especially 65+) whereas for MNK it gets easier and easier since they absolutely tear skeletons apart.

How to see if a job is good or not:

Step 1: Go to the MNK forums and read some threads, and see what the general atmosphere is of the posts there.

Step 2: Same as step 1, except DRG forum instead of the MNK forum.

You'll notice that every other thread in the DRG forum is "OMG Y DOZ DRG SUXXORS!?!?!??!", "How to fix DRG", and "IM LVL 3 AND I DO TEH UBER DAMAGE, U 70+ DRGs THAT SAY DRG SUXXORS ARE NOOBS!!!" :p

MNK is the the best DoT. (Damage over Time)

I had a static with a MNK from Lv.30 to Lv.51. Last time we partied in Quicksands Caves, he'd hit for 30-35 a hit. Doubled up that's 60-70 damage a volley if both mitts hit. (He's a Mithran, so he hits pretty consistantly.)

I'm an Elvaan DRK, so I hit for 70-90 a swing. With Scythe's HUGE delay, and Elvaan's crappy accuracy, he often hits hits 6 times before I hit twice.

If I hit once for his ever 2 hits, I'd out damage him at the end of every fight. But that's just not the case.

As far as Weapon skill damage? He and I almost always were with in 10 of each other's damage. SA Slice for 452, and his Raging Fists for 448.

DRG on the other hand. I've not partied with a DRG that had Penta Thrust. But basic melee damage, DRG is about 10-15 damage behind me. So a MNK at my experience, and level, out damage DRG, and the ones with good gear out damage DRK in over all damage.

Keep in mind, MNK has his Kote (Att+25), and I wasn't using Last Resort or Souleater. If I could survive, not destroy hate control, and use Souleater 100% of the time, RNG couldn't out damage me.
