How valuable is one attack/defense or attribute point? - Final Fantasy XI :: Dreams in Vana'diel

I've been wondering this a lot: is one attack/defense point or attribute point (STR,DEX,etc.) very much? How many points is an effect increase? Which is better to have: more STR or more attack? About how much more damage would you with a weapon that is 1 point stronger? How many points would it be until you notice an change? I ask these questions because in the AH i see a weaker weapon/armor that is half the price of another that is only 1 point better.
