You into melee combat or casting magic?

I'm the wrong person to take advice from about what main you should stick with LOL (check the sig), but I'd go with what you want to accomplish.

IMO:

Do you want to be a tank who's depended on to take damage, keep the mobs attention? Pal/War

Do you want to deal good melee damage and have a few resourceful spells? Drk/War

Do you want to deal lots of damage via lots of and hard hitting weapon skills? Sam/War

Do you want to do the biggest amount of damage possible everytime? Rng/War

Do you want a mixture of good damage and tanking ability? War/Nin

SMN

If you are a summoner, Warrior wouldn't do much good as a sub job.

The only thing you get from your subjob are abilities and job traits. You can't use gear if it doesn't have your main class listed on it.

Except--you knew there would be an except, right?--we Elvaan make fairly crappy mages. Sorry about that.

RGR/WAR or WAR/PLD or RDM/WHM or WAR/RDM? Are any of those good for Elvaans?

Elvaan make outstanding PLD/WARs and RNG/WARs, though I'd also consider RNG/NIN, so as to carry two Archers' Knives for additional Accuracy. Plus, with Widescan, Stealth, and Utsusemi, you'll be arguably the best puller around.

go RDM/SMN if you want to Summon, whack stuff and cast. The job ablities and stat boosts from Summoner greatly enhancing RDMs skills more then any other sub job..but there would be a cut down on spells. However you could screw around with some summons when your bored. A warning though, summoner is very hard to get summons, you need high fame + group of high levels to attain anything besides carbuncle. But if your gonna be elf..don't be a RDM. The lack of parties at higher levels, even with refresh would piss you off.

Be a SMN/WHM if you want to be. Sheesh. Just remember to get some mp+ gear when you can, and you should be all set. All though, to be a good summoner, you're going to need a pretty high level job to get the summons, or get high levels to help you.

I see you chose to be a RNG/NIN by your sig. Just remember there both advanced jobs...better have your starting class or two thought out.
