Get better graphix on ps2!!!
Hey guys.. with the release of the ps2 version in the next couple days.. I just want to remind everyone to setup their ps2 graphix to their best.. by default it isn't set to it's best!! For those who don't know about this.. Turn on the ps2 but keep the cd drive open, then close cd drive, when the screen comes up to look @ either memory card or the cd... Press Triangle then it should be on Playstation Driver, press Triangle and set disc speed to Fast and Texture mapping to Smooth! There ya go!! I notice a real nice difference in all my games and am hoping FFXI really takes advantage of this... which i believe it does.... Anyways, happy Gaming!

Doesn't that only apply to the Playstation games? (hence, the PS1 driver settings) and besides i tried that with my old PS games and i didn't really notice anything. =/

Yup that only works for PS1 games, if you have a nice big tv like me =P you can tell the difference somewhat.

Ah hah hah....

nah, the only way to spruce up FFXI graphics on TV is to get a nice vidcard, like a Radeon9800 - then set up the options and then send it to the TVout.

It wouldnt matter, tvs problim is resolution. On a HD tv, and if the ps2 supported reses like 1024X768 (it doesnt, altho i do think it can go a little bit up over normal tv res, saw something about how you could unlock it if you had a HD tv..) it would look the same.

Do not compaire consoles to PCs

1. PS2 only does upto 640x480 max.

2. Yes, that option is only for PSOne games.

If you play straight from console you'll still notice image quality issues such as jaggies and shimmering.

If you use your PC to render down to 640*480 for the overlay and 1024*768 or above you'll have a much better image quality than the PS2 version.

I defy you to say you can't or wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a PS2 running FFXI and a PC sending to TVout running FFXI (well with the appropriate settings of course).

Uhhh.. that's only for enhancing the graphics of PSX games. Not PS2 games.

I recently bought a 3.0 gig P4 HT comp with a Radeon 9800 pro video card. Computers are infinitely more powerful and better than any console. With emulators for every system, the ONLY reason a person should own a console in this day and age is if they can't afford a computer. P.S. mine was about $1200 with a 19" flat screen and DVD burner.

To get a proper comparison between a console and an PC, it would be closer to compair the console to the vidio card, not the entire PC. A console is basicly a vidiocard with a dvd drive=P

And emulators are buggy=P

Hey man, I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything, But I own a Decent PC, and Consoles. And IMO, Gmaes like Sports, Racing, Fighting, RPG's, Adventure and Platform games are much better played on a Console.

FPS's and Strategy expecially PC own in, and thats why I own one. PS2 and Xbox are way underpowered compared to PC's, But when PS3 comes out, I can assure you, you wont be playing anything better on PC.

Not trying to gripe at you or anything, and you were acting like consoles are useless, just though I would add my 2 cents.

works w/ps2 games too!!!
I always configure my ps2 to the optimal graphix settings.. and I've noticed a huge difference in pixel counts and such with ps2 games (FFX, Dynasty Warriors 2-4, Grand theft auto 3 and Vice City, Tenchu Wrath of Heaven... other games as well.. So it does have affect on ps2 games.. the colors are much more vibrant, the pixels aren't as visable and everything blends nicer rather since the pixels aren't as visable.. Think what you will, but it does a big difference on my tv.. it's a 32inch.. couple years old.. Sooo all you ps2 players.. give it a try. Maybe it'll work as it does with the other games..

The best you can do on PS2 is to use component cables. This is only if your TV has component cable in. I've tried regular AV, S-video and component.

Component by far gives you the greatest detail and sharpness. I play the Japanese version and I couldn't read some Kanji (Chinese character) with the regular AV cable.
