Who Should Pull?

Opinions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

In post parties I've been in, the ranger pulls with a bow and arrow. But I was in a party last night in which the ranger thought we were crazy when it was suggested she pull, because she didn't want to get hate.
So I'm confused. Should I be pulling as a warrior if there is a ranger around?

Best puller is someone who can do ranged attack/magic w/o being hit. IMOH the top-down puller list should be:

1. THF/NIN or NIN/THF (chakram for ranged attack, high dex to dodge hits, flee for long pull, utsusemi-ichi to avoid hit)
2. THF/RNG (no utsusemi-ich, but wide scan is good to have)
3. RNG/NIN (long delay bow pull: good for judging buffer, nice initial damage on pull, utsusemi-ichi to avoid hit)
4. DRK/WAR (poison/absorb for magic pull, x-bow for long delay pull, provoke if elemetal around, good if no THF, NIN or RNG in party)
5. any other provoker except PLD and DRG (PLD need to med for mana, DRG need to med for wyvern hp).

Mages shouldn't be puller or it will be a mess to start with =P.

The best thing to do (with my experiences) is to get any other melee or even ranger to go and pull a mob and then as soon as they run into camp you Provoke the mob off them and take all the hate by using Provoke every 30 seconds or if you have a sub-tank you can alternate every 15 seconds.

I myself hate pulling so I never get around to do it. :p

I was in a party in Yhoator Jungle (near level 30ish PT) and we were pulling the Yhoator Mandragoras. With all of the camps there, sometimes it got hard to find a Mandragora nearby to pull. We had a Ranger in our PT that was doing the pulling. I was amazed at how well he pulled. He could use RNG's Camouflage ability to avoid being detected by Goblins and go deeper into the jungle to find IT Mandragoras to pull, and he'd never get aggro'd by the Goblins. Simply invaluable.

Playing as a ranger, I don't mind pulling but sometimes its just too dangerous for me to go out and try to pull using such a long delay weapon.

Most of the time I would rather just have the thief or ninja go out, pull and just cast regen if they got hit on the way.

Kurgan: How did that ranger get back without being aggro'd by the gobs?

Thieves, rangers, and pretty much any melee that doesn't rest between fights (that has a ranged attack).

I've pulled before (redmage) with paralyze.

I'm usually a good distance away, and there's a warrior there to intercept it.

After 41 Monks make good pullers with Chi Blast, good range on that, and might as well make use of extra HP.

I'm a pld, and generally, if I have the mana(refresh) I like to pull. If I can find that distance where I'm out of hit range, but in provoke range, I can get a provoke in before I get to the party, and have it recycle shorly after I get there. Does wonders for hate management.

Beyond that, Chi blast is nice, or anyone with an ranged weapon, doesn't matter what, I'll provoke it instantly anyhow.

Mostly, any melee with long range weapon is the best puller. But it's never that simple. There are many places where pulling can be hindered by aggro spawns, and narrow spaces. In most cases, a PT will have a WHM(or subbed) who can sneak a puller. Unfortunetly resting for a WHM is paramount for successive Chains. In these cases, a secondary player could sneak the puller, or that puller might have silent oil to use. But a lot of times, a puller will be far out to pull, then a aggro mob who "sees" will spawn in the path of the puller back to the PT. A Prism Powder will be good. But honestly, how many ppl carry both silent oil and Prism Powder?? A NIN has self Invis ninjitsu, but still needs sneak.
This is one area I've always felt good about when i chose WAR/WHM. I was always the puller, unless if I got sloppy from being tired PPL who have hunted in CN and Garilage(SP??), know how sucky it is to go out far, and then have a mob spawn in your path back. Being able to sneak, deo and invis myself, has saved me and my PT many of times. If I'm not pulling, I'll sneak/invis the puller, allowing the WHM to regen.
I'll admit, when I get the retail, I'll be using WAR/DRK for lvling. So I would have to rely on a smart puller, or myself, and a secondary WHM to help keep the puller safe. Again, it always comes down to a smart PT. But I would always expect the puller to have some type of range weapon. Honestly though, I couldn't feel safe without being able to sneak and invis myself when I'm the puller >,,<

I've ran into a few rangers that "dont" pull.

What is with that? You've been given all the advantages to be an awesome puller and use none of them.
Widescan
Camoflague(sp?)
and that passive ability that helps you not get agro'd (forget its name).
Why wouldnt you want to pull?

On a another pointm if we have a rdm, i tend to pull alot. I just run out there and provoke. If the mob is in a tough spot but still able to be pulled I'll use banish or flash.
