| Junior Member | People that buy and sell their Gil for $
I've been playing this for about two months now. Recently I found out that there are actual websites where you can buy and sell Gil using your creditcard. Hmmm. This would explain some things. How common is this ? Maybe I am too new to the game and missing out on the fact that it's really normal to just buy your Gil And a personal question, do you think it is wrong or right ?

It's common, in that I've heard about it happening in every MMORPG. Correct Behavior however? No. Extreme no. It's always hecka-illegal, and frowned upon. The black market trade of RPG goods, so to speak. Avoid this, please.

I don't think it "explains" anything: 1) Everyone NA is 12 years old. 2) I haven't seen anything cheaper than about $1 per 1,000 gil. Now to be honest, I would buy gil if it were reasonably priced. Sure, it might take some of the "fun" away, but that's my choice to make. But $1/k is pretty ridiculous. Hell, if I thought it was actually selling at that price, I'd probably sell some gil of my own. And to the deluge of people who will say "it's stupid to pay real money for fake money", you're just naive. And probably poor to boot. Because you're 12. |

Fair enough, the "explaining" part was personal to me. I finally found out, after some stress, how to make a profit. Now I see you can just buy some Gil. I think I will ignore the rest of your post.

It is disgusting. Almost $500 for 500k Gil. What stupid people would ever buy it? |

I'd never do it, but its not right to tell others what they can and can't do. I'd sell it though ^^

It's happened in every MMO since UO. The biggest share of the market goes to EQ, followed by DAoC, UO, SW:G, and now I would bet FFXI also falls right in with the top 5, purely due to it's size. It's against the EULA in each of the games, yet if you wanted you could go buy 100kpp in EQ for $100 and have the platinum in under 5 minutes by going to www.IGE.com. Lately this has been a big news issue in the EQ world, as IGE and www.mysupersales.com have been buying out the class and server messageboards to put up advertising...and now earlier this week, IGE bought out mysupersales. According to some wall street reports, IGE and mysupsales grossed something like 10 million. They apparently have 'sweat shops' in mexico, tiawan and a few other places with 3 shifts of full time people playing games to make virtual cash in them, and then turn around and sell it for real cash. Lately this has really played heck with EQs economy because some ways of duping cash and items were found and exploited by these companies..so price inflation is nuts(part of the reason I am playing it less and less). Gah I'm rambling. I would estimate about 80% of people look down upon this, another 10% dont care, and yet another 10% think there are justifications or participate in it. It really boils down to people having more money than time. Or more money than brains (actually this is probably more likely). Somone that works 12 hours a day doesn't want to spend time grinding out gil, so they may opt to buy it instead, and enjoy their playtime doing other things. MY personal stance is...this sucks. It ultimately messes with the economy in some way shape or form. EverQuest has apparently turned the other cheek to it after they got ebay to ban EQ auctions, as you can goto www.playerauctions.com and buy the exact same stuff through an ebay cloned interface. Hopefully Square can and will do something about this. |

I don't understand how anyone can suck so much in a game they need to buy with irl cash. Doing this is admitting you suck as a player. And if I read one more line of "I don't have time to hunt my own gil", well if you don't have time to play a game without cheating, especially a mmorpg, where you play with other people, have some fucking respect and don't play. No matter how you look at it, it ruins the game, it's illegal, you can get banned for it, and you will never tell anyone because you will be ashamed, ashamed of being called desperate and a real hardcore wuss. |

Buying/selling in-game currency (gil) or items/armor/weapons for real-life cash or other assets is illegal based upon the terms of both your Content ID agreement for FFXI and Licence Agreement for PlayOnline. Should someone report you to Square Enix for participating in activities such as this, you will get banned from PlayOnline. FFXIOnline.com does not condone these activities whatsoever, and will ban users participating in such acts where the board is used as a media for selling/buying digital assets. Angler |

I knew it was a banable offence, but due to other games guidlines I was unaware breaking the EULA was also an offence punishible by law.
