Well it's simple, the higher the setting the better the graphics. Read the manual for the descriptions of each option and set it for best quality. If you have a high end card you can even get much better graphics by editing the registry. By high end I really mean high end, this thing kills my 8500 .

If your system can handle it...
Enable MIP Mapping
Overlay set to whatever you are comfortable with
Background resolution - as high as you can get it
Textures Uncompressed
Maps Uncompressed (if you care)
Enable Bump Mapping
Smooth environmental mapping
Enable Hardware Cursor

Also, make sure that the quality settings on you vid card are as high as you want them - FSAA is also important - turn it up.

Those are the 'best' settings (and are what I am running). Play with different combinations until you get the best quality/performance match for your system.

As far as editing the registry - that is up to you. It is probably the best way to remove the jagged edges that are still left on some objects when all the other effects are boosted.

how do you turn on FSAA from the registry - I have it set to "Override Applications" within the video card settings but FFIX turns it off... :dead:

What card are you running. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro and FSAA is working just fine from the vid card control panel...

even with a good card however...... turn off weather effects....they REALLY lag u.....well..... unless u have some uber 3.2ghz on radeon 9800 pro with a gig of ram....then im not stopping u

oh and another note....... MIP mapping or whatever its called..... uncheck that box for the highest quality

if its checked it uses lower resolution "placeholder" textures for distant objects.....while if you UNCHECK it it uses the full sized texture

erg....for a definition read it in the manual....its in there
