| Junior Member | Who eats food when the play??
Heh I dont know how to make a poll so I am just asking it like this. It seems that not many of the USA players i party with or talk too eat food or even know that you can eat food and it helps you. From my experience food is extraordinarily helpful (especially for melee) and I was just wondering why so many people dont eat. I know its expensive but so it new armor or weapons........ they are really rather similar. you dont see ppl in the 30s running around with level 1 basic equipment just like you dont see most japanese players without their stack of mithkabobs. I think the hardest time to get food is when your starting out because of money issues so I am sympathetic, but I think its worth it to go farm items or do quests for a day and make the 30k you need to buy like a week or two worth of food. What are your opinions?

It doesn't matter what level you are on. Food has the same effect for all levels.

Most cooked meat will +STR and +attack. the most popular meat food is meat mithkabob which gives +27% attack +5STR +2AGI. great food for melee types of any level. I always eat it when I'm running up attacking monsters. Fish mithkabob = +25% defense. not sure what else but it is paladin's favourite food. quite expensive tho up to 900 a piece. Can also eat crab's meat for defense too. broiled Mushroom = +20MP +3MND and increase MP regeneration rate. Food for WHM normally. all pies give you +MP and +INT apple pie +25MP +3INT melon pie +30MP +4 int and some more expensive pies that gives up to 50MP Tea, +CHR Juice, regenerate MP Selbina milk = regenerate HP guess that's most of the popular food...

How long do the effects of food last for?

The effects vary depending on which food you consume. Here is a list of what all the foods do (JP site, use Babelfish) and how each food can be made: http://www.geocities.co.jp/Foodpia-C...7/index02.html http://www.geocities.co.jp/Foodpia-C...7/index00.html These guides aren't too bad either and they're in english: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/27610.html http://nhz.host.sk/ffxi/page.php?id=69 http://ffo.warcry.com/index.php/cont...culinarian.php http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/guilds.html?guild=Cooking |

nice links. you can't synthesize mithkabob? |

you can synthesize mithkabob. you can synthesize pretty muich all food. And yeah mithkabob is crazy good for melee. It seems that now is the time where lots of people ar egetting their advanced job and i STORNGLY recommoned getting astack of food for leveling your new job solo from 1-10. I bought a stack of mitkabob for my new bard and i got from 1-10 in like 4 hours it was cool stuff. I also had some left over for when i started partying at 10. Luckily bard doesent need to buy food very much maybe some stuff for +mnd but usually they just need driunks for emergency or soemthing. However for all those on the front line doing damage I cannot stress enough how essential it is to eat food if you can. Jei is walking proof of why food is good. After playing a lot of the game and knowing all about it he uses food even at low level with no money like us. Your parties go a lot smoother when everyone eats. I mean think of its like this. 3 melee each increasing their atk by +25% thats a 75% increase in attack over all meaning you have almost a whole nother fighter in your pt!. a party of 4 melee's is always stronger than a party of 3 =). O and when i talk about food I unfortunatley dont mean things like wild onion or pot of honey or rabbit or sheep meat because those arent good food to eat. Wild food is not very good and usually hurts more than it helps. You should stick with stuff that has been synthesised like the kabobs and pies that jei talked about. One great thing though for low level players with not very much money. Go check in the AH for food that is a bit lowere level than kabobs. A good choice for atk increasing food is the grilled hair it also raises your atk and str, i think atk goes up by 15% or seomthing maybe. this food is much lower level to make ( I think level 5) and no japanese people want to eat it! so people who skill up guilding make this and sell it for cheap on the AH because noone wants it! so maybe pickup a few stacks of the less expensive food till you get some more cash rolling in. The lowere level foods i know of are.- Atk- crab meat Def-Roast corn<Crawfish broiled in salt<Boiled crab for mages- im not really sure just see what the cheapest pie or mushroom is. THe cheapest juice though is orange juice. Also heres a hint for everyone that is mage. JOIN COOKING GUILD IN WINDHURST. it is extremely helpful if your a mage to have the abi9lity to make juices. When you are chainging in a pt later on and dont want to have to stop and rest you can use a juice to regen mp. and juices are pretty easy to make and not so expensive. At really low cooking level ( i think its level 0-5) you can make orange juice and all you need is 4 ornages and distilled water. and you can buy oranges or distilled water in the AH or at the cooking and alchemy guild. For anyone that is hoping for some better chaing or faster leveling with less down time that should help. Bon apetit everyone!! |

I'd love to use food more often in game if I wasn't so dirt poor all the time from buying spells and keeping my gear up to date.

the reason you dont see mages eating food...is because we are so freagin poor. i couldnt afford a piece of food if i wanted to....but i was watching this big galka guy eat giant sheep meat before he went out to pull enemies for us...was the coolest thing..hehe. i ate a pumpkin once..and it seemed to hurt me more then help..all i seen was some hamburger on my screen...wtf is that.
