Im from England and so currently can't wait to get my hands on a UK copy of the game but i had a rather disturbing thought.
In all other previous FF games, youve always been able to go back to a game 5 years later just because you felt like playing it over again. But!!!!!... what happens 5 years later when other people get bored and SquareEnix no longer wish to spend money keeping the game online, theyll just stop it and itll be gone forever and no-one will ever be able to play it again!!!

Ultima online is still online since 1998

they have updated Client 2D to 3D client and people are playing right now.
Think a thing they have spent a lot of money in this game do you really think they will want you to go away?? NO they will make up something to keep you billing as much as they can. They'll update all updateable <--- LOL

Im sure SquareEnix wont give up its MMRPG part and will release updates or new online games.

Meridian 59 was out even before UO. When 3do finally shut it down, someone else came along and bought it and started it up again. So expect that even if there is only enough people to let the admins break even, and square is willing to hand it off, someone that loves the game will probably keep it alive for a long time.

look at EQ its stil going. Sqaure wont give up on a MMORPG!!! There will be many expansion before it goes KABOOM!!!

Games die because of no updates. FFXI is going to be the biggest MMO, meaning Square will get big $$$. Big $$$ means the developer can continue to work on the game, updating it, which in the end means more $$$ for them. It's obvious already that Square has a lot of plans for this game even after it's release in 2002 in Japan, I say it'll last 7 or 8 years more.

Ive been with EQ for 4 years now, and i quitted about 4times but expansions keep drawing me back to it. Same will happen with me and FFXI, Sq-Enix's updates will keep me wanting more!
