RUMOR -> Release : Cancelled?

I just heard from a friend that the US PS2 release is supposedly cancelled..... This is what he said:

'Since Square and Enix are having merger problems, FFXI has been put on indefinite hold'

'They can't find any place to host US servers since they shut down Square USA'

'Sony doesn't want to release the HDD because not many games support it'

He said this was confirmed in the latest Famitsu magazine. I hate rumors, and I really hate people spreading false information, but I just want to get this out of my system because it's freaking me out. Does anybody have the new Famitsu magazine that has this info and that can confirm it's truth? Thanks *bites nails*

NO WAY ur friend just made a rumor YOU SHOULD GO BEAT HIS HEAD IN lol ^_^ well its bs cause i havent seen anything official that said something about this, so dont worry, im sure if something this big did happen it would be all over the gaming news sites, and im always updated on this stuff, i check on gaming news all the time >.<

That's true and all, I'm just kinda scared about it. I just want to make sure it's just some stupid rumor, and not truth. Even if it's a lie, it makes me feel kinda sick. >_< So, can anybody give me a real, proven denial of this rumor?

Well, first of all, Square and Enix have resolved their problems, and the merger is to proceed as planned. I don't know anything about the servers and Sony's HDD. However, if square knew that FFXI wasn't going to be released, they would announce that information. There would be no point at all for them to hold back that information. If they knew 100% that FFXI would not come to the US, its not like they would build up our anxiety like this and then say, "Oh yeah, we arn't releasing it state-side." Square not saying anything at least tells us that they are still planning something for the US. Its better to have no information on the game rather than to have a confirmation that it won't be coming here.

Is your friend planning on getting FFXI and has he researched this at all?

In my most recent PSM, they had this to say:

-Well...first of all, FFXI was on the February Release Date List, haha, but that won't happen.
-They had a small paragraph in an article about FFXI saying that since it has now hit its number it needs to make profit, Square Representatives have said they definitely want to bring it to NA and to look for it on shelves sometime in 2003.

That is what I read, and PSM may not be official, but they wouldn't completely make something up like that. The actual stuff I read about this was DIRECT QUOTES, not just their summary.

yeah and plus, square already confirmed a ps2 and pc release, so if something suddenly happened that would cause them to cancel the ps2 release they would probably announce it right away, but dont worry about it, ur friend is a bum and he's messing with you, i just wish that the game would come already

uhh in the new psm (sorry if this has been said i didn tread the wholke thread) in a interview they said that the game is definitely coming to the us shores they being square of course

I am curious to know if you all would think about playing FFXI japanese version if there is really no US FFXI. Frankly I am not a japanese, and many people likes me are playing FFXI japanese version. Sure we have some difficulty, but I think communication would not be a big problem in the game as many players would speak english to you.

If it is ever confirmed that FFXI won't be released in the US, then I will import it in a second. I'm having to hold back my temptation to import it now :sweat:
