About the PS2 beta kits...

I have some great news for those with PS2 beta kits, and it comes straight from the source at Square Enix themselves.

This is an email I sent PlayOnline yesterday, and below is the response.

Hello, my name is ********** and I am currently beta testing Final Fantasy XI on the PlayStation 2. I just have 2 questions concerning returning the beta kit, when that time comes, that I was hoping you may be able to answer for me.

First, the letters in the beta kit box did not exactly specify what was to be returned after the Beta period is over. I am aware the HDD unit itself must be returned, but I was inquiring whether or not the beta discs of Final Fantasy XI and PlayOnline are to be returned as well? Or do we get to keep them as souvenirs?

Second, it states in our acceptance letter that upon return of the Beta HDD, we are to recieve a consumer HDD. Will this be sent out immediately after your recieving of the Beta HDD\'s, or will it ship closer to the release of the game?

If any of these questions can be answered I would greatly appreciate it, and I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation and for giving me the opportunity to Beta test this phenomenal game!

Master Public Beta Test.

You only need to return the HDD unit upon completion of the beta test. At this
time specific dates as to the shipping of the new HDD units are not available.

So as you can see, not only are Square Enix and Sony giving us all a free HDD outta of this test, but we also get to keep the cool, super rare Final Fantasy XI beta package!

I think this all makes up for the extremely long time we've all had to wait for this incredible game!

The only reason they offer you the new hdd is so that they can get people to send back the OLD hdd without any lawsuits.

Well, the (supposed) fact that you can't use the Beta HD afterwords anyway kind of necessitates that you send it back.

I don't see why the beta hdd won't work after the beta is over. Its just a normal hd, and won't destroy itself or anything after a certain amount of time. But for the beta disks itself, SE could shut down beta servers rendering the disks useless. With the hdd, SE could do nothing stop the functions of the beta hd unless they put some sper secret thing inside that none of use know about.
