Hey, So I installed FFXI on my PC today, got everything installed properly. When I double click on PlayOnline to start it up, a window comes up saying "PlayOnline stopped working" and shuts down. Same thing happened when I clicked on the FFXI shortcut, and the FFXI Config. So I looked around google and downloaded PlayOnline's new client for Vista. Finally got PlayOnline running, my account setup, a content ID purchased, and now I am in the process of downloading 11644 files that should be done downloading in the next 8 hours... I just want to know... will FFXI work after the patches are done downloading? I don't want to go through the hassle of finding out what the heck is wrong. I've installed everything.... it SHOULD work.... but does anyone have some insight? By the way, I am in the process of updating FFXI. If I've gotten all the way there, it should mean that the game is functioning correctly... right? Also, for those wondering what my system is, here are the specs: Intel Core i7 920 2.67 ghz 6gb OCZ Reaper RAM nVidia GeForce GTX 295 Trust me when I say that my setup isn't what is causing the problem. yes your good, sounds like your only problem was not using the Vista POL

and as an advanced note, follow these steps to enhance the way the game will look some, default settings look horrid

Step 1:go to your run command and type REGEDIT and click ok.

Step 2: follow this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PlayOnline US\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI

Step 3: You should see 5 files 0000 is the mipmapping level, 0001 and 0002 are the resolution of the game, and 0003/0004 are the background, or the resolution of the 3d graphics

Step 4: right click on each one and choose "modify", and in the new box, click the choice on the bottom right "Decimal"

following these steps you could change the following to..

example of what mine is set to....
0000=4 (mipmapping level)
0001=1440
0002=900
0003=double what 0001 is
0004=double what 0002 is
