| яашя | UI and Font
So I'm using this UI and Font mod that makes everything look a lot clearer and nicer and I guess to make sure I asked a GM and he said doing this was against the rules. So why are there so many sites for these and so many high level players risking their accounts to use these custom Ui's and Fonts? Do they actually enforce the rules for using fonts and UI? ---------- Post added at 03:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ---------- Found on different forum. Quote:

also probably a good idea, not going up to GMs and saying "yo dude, how you like my client side modifications". I tried it once. He was not amused. |

There's no actual way for them to know you are swapping .dats or changing the UI, unless you post screenshots somewhere, and even then (like on forums) they're not really going to track you down and ban you for it, because it isn't adversely affecting anyone else's gameplay. If you're really worried don't do it at all, but we talk in LS about stuff like .dats and the like and we've not gotten nailed for it, so I don't think they really care a whole hell of a lot. Yeah, it's technically against the rules, but they can't exactly prove that you .dat swap/mod without haxing your computer. So you'd be pretty safe.

In general, if you're using some kind of third party app or any client-side effects (Windower, Dat-swapping, UI-mods), just don't talk about it in game and there's nothing to worry about. You're only risking your account if you run your mouth, or make it very obvious you are cheating (pos-hacking, running speed, etc). |

However, being really pedantic, there is a way for the game to figure out if you've changed the dat files, so no, it's not simply a don't ask/don't tell situation. |

Yes there's a way to check if the files have been altered, but that doesn't warrant an infraction so that point is pretty moot.

Anyone know how long the ban is if you get caught?

I find it just really silly because World of Warcraft is so open to mods of all sorts and they don't have hackers running around.

Lets just say ive been playing for roughly 4 years and i remember always using mods. Never been banned. Just dont mention it ingame and youre fine FFXI is not WoW so i advise you to keep an open mind with FFXI instead of comparing the 2 games. FFXI is multiplatform, so they cant allow certain things, that includes mods. Probably

If they can ban you for using it, don't post it here. It's that simple, imo. I'm not going to be the one that said it was ok and some jackass uses them, goes in game bragging about his cool icons, and gets banned. Then comes here and goes starts mouthing off about how its our fault cause he got the link here and then a bunch of yahoos jump on the Moderators Suck bandwagon and start agreeing with him and then he shows up on my doorstep at 4am........OOOOOOOOOOOH NO we aren't going there!!!!

My Mood: | Re: UI and Font If you're real worried, don't use anything not specified by the ToS. And while, yes, there is technically a way for the game to check if you've altered your .dats, it's really silly to think that SE has nothing better to do than bop ppl with a banstick for altering the UI on their client only. Could be wrong though. I've really never used any 3rd party app or mod other than Windower, which is a bannable offense. However, unlike dat mods, SE has to do somethings most people would consider illegal to determine if you're using windower. In the end, FFXI is not WoW, and comparing them on any level is wasting your time. Yes, Blizzard is more open about mods. WoW, however, is exclusive to the PC, meaning if you can use the mod, I can use the mod too. FFXI spans across 3 systems, 2 of which are consoles, thereby limiting some users. Allowing PC users to openly mod their games while console users are stuck with system defaults would create an unfair advantage, according to SE. |
