so i've been reading all over the place about the 8 series cards, just wondering if anyone has found a solution? unless there isn't really an issue in the first place? i'll describe my problem. Q6600 oc at 3.20ghz 4gb DDR2-1066 ram Nvidia 8800gt 1gb Basically, the game runs like a charm on max 2560x2024 res and looks amazing. However, when i run into a group of people (roughly 20-30) the fps just drops to 20... 20-15... and the whole game just feels extremely slow. I can tell this isn't really hardware issues because the 8800gt is more than capable... i'm just wondering if anyone can tell me the problem and/or has a solution? unless ofcourse, this is due to the ps2 limitations?

I get over 80 fps on first person shooters (Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead) and other games (Fallout 3). FFXI's code needs to be improved (badly) to accept higher end hardware, but since it's not and EVERYONE and their MOMS and their GRANDMOMS(TGM reference), are crying for DX9 which they have yet released. As for your solution, have you tried to use one of the drivers that Nvidia released that is directed to handling performance for FFXI? (yes nvidia made drivers specifically for FFXI)

My Mood: | Re: low fps some areas Its always laggy at WG's AH except sometimes when I play during the morning and there is maybe 2-3 people standing around lol. After 6:00 though when there are over 30 people there crowding the AH it is lag city. I once overpaid by a few thousand for something at the AH because the was such a lag spike right there.

I usually disable shadows and it all goes back to normal. Even my computer is pretty boss but it seems to choke with so many shadows...

been looking all over google for a proper fix and there's no solid answer :\ just people guessing at random fixes, which i'm not really keen to try (encase i screw my PC up somehow) I don't see how older drivers would be better though, i'm using 181.22 and my fps is capped at 29 when i'm in areas like bastok/windurst which has quite a few people on Bahamut server, not really a ghost town. What i don't understand is, i went to the dunes lastnight and stood in the Oasis.. my fps dropped to 24ish with only 2 parties there. My system should run this game capped at 29 fps constantly, even in areas with 30+ people. I will probably research on google some more but if anyone has a solution please post :<

yeah same here I have a high end system myself quad core and 1gb video and 8gb ram, just as a basic reference, and I get FPS hits like that as well. ______________________________ Quote:
your not going to find a fix ;p the only one that can fix it is SE we are still waiting for our DX9 upgrade they said they would do.... *sigh* but still have not got it yet. updating FFXI to DX9 would fix alot of its problems on the system level

First off people no matter what system you run you will never keep capped frame. The servers are not localized in the USA for one, and on top of that the game code as someone mentioned earlier is crapski. Another issue SE provided us with is the fact that there is so much intersecting geometry it is not even funny. Yes! That does interfere with rendering, becuase it doubles the rendertime on objects protruding through one another. Needless to say on these maintenances they could try moving some objects so they do not interesect, and adjust others, but this is SE. I know they try their best with this huge game, but they dont seem to fix a lot of the issues concerning lag. Besiged is horrible as well as campaign battle. I have not been back to one of those in years, because of the sheer, "I can not see any of the mobs or players, oh and im dead yay!" factor.

server location has nothing to do with your FPS because DX8 sucks -.-

Sever location has everything to do with the loss of connection speed, which will affect you FPS, and as a side not when you drop below 20fps you add another 50ms of ping time.

In short, server location is meaningless to FFXI.

You will experience more latencey going through more hops. What you say is far from the truth. You will experience quiet a different experience from 5hops comapred to 20hops. You degrade performace per hop since they have to be boosted to reach their destination in the first place.

you are missing the point -.- FFXI is capped at 30fps, and 56k connection, no matter your PC setup or connection. So both of these really dont matter, but FFXI being in DX8 and having the code abit on the.... "jumbled" side, makes the game preform horribly -.- with systems like what most people have around here, we should be getting 25-29 solid FPS all the time.
