Re: low fps some areas

Even so with a horrible connection to the servers due to amount of hops, and the latencey alone will keep you from having constant FPS at 30. Even if SE were to fix the code and give DX9, you would experience the same crud FPS you are getting. I am not missing the point I took it into consideration, other factors other than the code and DX9 support are going to prevent a constant 29-30 FPS rate.

You easily hit the 30fps cap on a bad 56k connection. Server placement is so far down on the list of things affecting FFXI's performance that your constant harping on it just shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

Haha... insults get you know where. Besides, graphic improvements will not get you vary far with the many other things I mentioned, such as, intersecting geometry, which plays a huge role in render time. Another being the fact that like you and many others say DX8. On top of that everything uses polygons, even the special effects which are just shaders on polys instead of actual particle emitters.

server location is very low on the list....

FFXI performance is directly related to poor code and the use of DX8

at least if SE would finally give the DX9 update, the game can use your systems resources better, and preform some what better.

Re: low fps some areas

DX9 would help, but so much more needs to be done.

Re: low fps some areas

aaaaaaanyway.

I noticed in the dunes that some helmets were clipping with the hair. Especially the headband-style headgear clipping and just acting weird. I thought to myself, this is odd.. considering i've never noticed this before until now.

Here's where it gets interesting. Once i left the dunes, the clipping stopped. I went to several different locations (for testing) and there was not one problem with helmet/hair...

i'm guessing S.E hate the dunes also?

btw, the clipping isn't really noticeable until you actually spot it... that's when it becomes annoying ^^ so next time you're in the dunes and you're leveling with your party, try to look at some headgear and let me know if they are acting strange.

Want to make sure it's not just me

Re: low fps some areas

SE did not do a good job on some gear, and its evident in certain zones for some reason. Most hair and feet intersect with armor when you pose your character. Put on the Elvaan RSE and put on some same pants or bard pants and sit, and you will see what i mean.

Re: low fps some areas

yea its just really odd, on my tarutaru (without helmet) if i go near lizard camps i can see random clipping on my head lol (barely noticeable) but once i go past the tunnel and onwards, it disapears. Been traveling to several zones and no clipping occurs.. just near the lizard camps it decides to act on its own.

nvidia problem i bet, my mate whos with ati (followed me around) doesnt see it.

but yea, im just being picky.. its not really noticeable
