It's difficult to troubleshoot your problem with the little bit of information that you've given. The best that I can offer is this, go to this page and follow the instructions EXACTLY. If you have followed these instructions to the letter, then you may need to uninstall and try again. Sometimes things get corrupted for no reason other than a giltch, computers are fun like that. i actually haven't even been able to install it. my computer has absolutely no ffxi or playonline stuff. I just put the install disc in (or start the vista compatible-program i downloaded) it loads a few things then stops and says "Error 1324: The path Group 8 contains an invalid character." I never get to choose or click anything. I just put in the disc, and this pops up after a few loads.

Ok how about you give me the info on your computer. This helps people to know if there might be an issue with compatibility. Click on your Windows Vista Icon (Start Button). The box that pops up with have a Search box at the bottom of it. Type Run in the box and hit enter. A list will appear and Run should be at the top. Click on that and a seperate box will appear. In that box, type dxdiag and hit enter. On that first tab, System, you will see the System Information. Copy and paste that. Now go to the Display tab, and copy and paste the information under the Device section and the Drivers section. If you ever have issues with your computer and ask for help, this is a simple way for you to share the basic information of your computer with others to help them troubleshoot better.

Ok, computer should be fine with the game. Now you said you have downloaded the Microsoft Windows Vista-compatible version of the PlayOnline Viewer right? Make sure you read through the instructions at least once before doing anything, just so you understand how things are going to work. There is this warning: If the PlayOnline viewer and FINAL FANTASY XI are already installed, they will need to be uninstalled. Select Programs from the Control Panel, and then select PlayOnline Viewer and FINAL FANTASY XI from the Uninstall or change a program list. Finally, click Uninstall. So start over and uninstall EVERYTHING. Then read through the instructions on this page BEFORE doing anything else. FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site Close all other programs before installing the game and make sure you are on the main (admin) account for the computer. Then install the downloaded Vista POL by following the instructions on that page. Many times when we get people with error issues on the forums, its usually because they try to skip a part to do it faster or think they don't have to follow the instructions exactly.
