| Compilation of Fixes for "Game Stuttering"
I spent all day trying to fix my game stuttering issue (when I should have been studying!), but I finally fixed it. Throughout the day I've seen other possible fixes that may or may not help you. Below is a list that helped other people and even myself. I take no responsibility for anything done to your computer. If a mod finds this post to be complete garbage. Feel free to get rid of it. ;] Standard Fixes: 1.) Run a spyware and virus scanner. You can use Ad-Aware for a good free spyware removal tool. (Link to Ad-Aware: Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft) 2.) Run Disk Cleanup and Defragment your system. The standard defragmenter that comes with Windows is utter poo. I highly suggest Auslogics. (Link: Auslogics - Download Auslogics Disk Defrag) 3.) Kill off any programs that may be eating up processes. For example, iTunes, Trillian, Google Talk, etc. etc. 4.) Last but not least, update your drivers. You can find an updated list of the drivers that SE recommends here: FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site If you are running a laptop and your driver provider is not up-to-date, you can use this website: NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com (Use this website as a last resort! I take no responsibility for whatever you do to your computer.) Intermediate Fixes: 1.) If you are running Norton Antivirus software, many have reported the stuttering being fixed after Norton was disabled / uninstalled. (This is for Norton only!) 2.) Open up the proper ports. Please refer to this post: PORTS settings and problems FAQ 3.) Disable QoS Packet Scheduler. To do so, go to Start -> Network -> Network and Sharing Center (at the top) -> Manage Network Connections -> Right Click on your Connection -> Properties -> Uncheck QoS Packet Scheduler. Remember to switch it back on if it doesn't fix your issue. 4.) This may sound odd, but remove ALL the things you have plugged into your USB ports. If this works for you, start up FFXI and gradually plug things back in and see what starts up the problem again. (This is what worked for me and has worked for a few others.) Seems to be spawning from wireless mice. 5.) Try another internet source. Some have reported this problem fixed by switching to a different internet connection. (But don't steal internet!) Advanced Fixes: 1.) Create a partition and install Windows XP on to it. Then run FFXI off of this new partition. (If you aren't sure how to do this already, I highly suggest you not even try. Otherwise, if you're that desperate, Google it up.) 2.) Start up FFXI in Window Mode. While in-game, open up the task manager, then select the Resource Monitor under Performance. Run around in-game for awhile and see if anything is bottlenecking. If so, you may want to consider ending some of your current processes and seeing if it helps any. 3.) Clean out the inside of your computer (If you're on a Desktop.) Your GPU and CPU may be getting too hot due to all the dust cluttering the vents up. Remember to be careful of what you touch! If you have any more fixes, please let me know. These are all the ones I have been told fixed the issue for some people.

My Mood: | Re: Compilation of Fixes for "Game Stuttering" FFXI works no problem for me and I have Vista Ultimate, Geforce 8800 GTS, and Intel Core 2 Duo. So, I don't know what you're talking about.

| Re: Compilation of Fixes for "Game Stuttering" The problem is only occurring on computers that have an intel CPU, GeForce 8 Series GPU, and run Vista as the OS. However, maybe because you have Vista Ultimate you're okay? Not sure, but just relaying what I've read in other forums and webpages.
