Which version of the game has the best graphics?

Before the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XI was released, there was talk that it would have better graphics than the PC version, but that later, the PC version would get a patch to bring its graphics up to the level of the 360 version. So, what happened with all of that?

1) Did the 360 version actually wind up having better graphics? If so, and besides resolution, anti-aliasing, and texture filtering, how were the graphics better, and did the PC version get a patch to match the 360 version's graphics?

2) What resolution does the 360 version run at?

3) Does the 360 version have anti-aliasing? What kind of texture filtering does it have?

4) What framerate is the game limited to, in general? Or is it different between versions?

Feel free to pick and choose questions to answer. I just want to know which version has the best graphics...

Re: Which version of the game has the best graphics?

I think the limitation that the graphics in FFXI are lower is because of needing to keep things within the specifications of the PS2 (which is obviously outdated). As far as I know the game runs a little better on the 360 than the PS2 (what I'm told but haven't seen with my own eyes), but I would still recommend the PC version. With the registry edits (thread) FFXI looks fantastic, even on lesser PCs. Plus being able to window and have the internet open for reference, and using PC peripherals is much easier in my opinion. Also, the FFXI vlient uses a lot of the hard drive, and I heard getting the space back is a pain in the ass if you ever decide to uninstall.

Just my two cents....

With default, unmodified graphics, the 360 looks a little better. On the computer however, you can modify your resolution and gamma to make it look much better then the 360.

Re: Which version of the game has the best graphics?

In addition to what they said, the PS2 version is goddamned awful in terms of graphics. Runs at the lowest resolutions, I believe. If they're not the lowest, they're definitely disgustingly low.

Never seen the 360 version but if your computer is good, then you can most likely exceed the 360 version's graphics. If your PC is outdated, then you would probably be better off with the 360 version assuming you already have the 360.

Game is limited to 30 FPS, I don't think that's any different across consoles.

Re: Which version of the game has the best graphics?

Basically like they've all said. I'd rate the scale with PS2 weakest, and Xbox360 and PC relatively on par with each other. Right out of the box, the Xbox360 version probably has better graphics, but a PC user can easily modify settings to make the PC version superior.

In the end, across all 3 platforms, the graphics are still going to be relatively dated compared to most games being released these days. FFXI is what, 6-7 years old now in terms of world wide public availability. Not to mention, what FFXI lacks in graphics processing, it more than makes up for with playable content. I wouldn't worry too much about graphics.

(p.s. and personally, I think the graphics engine in FFXI is still better looking than that of WoW, which is relatively newer compared to FFXI.)

Re: Which version of the game has the best graphics?

The Xbox 360 's graphics are mostly determined by the TV you are watching it on - once we switched to HDTV's (and bumped the Xbox up to 1080i) the graphics and the view became MUCH better...

That said, however, I've seen screen caps from higher end PC's with everything pushed to the max and its pretty dramatically different (read - BETTER).

Re: Which version of the game has the best graphics?

Whether PC or 360 will be better is mostly dependent on your PC, but pretty much any PC that can play modern games is going to kick the 360's ass. SE also mentioned a DX9 upgrade, which would presumably improve graphics at least somewhat, but they haven't talked about it in a long time.

Even PCs that can't play modern games can probably compete with the 360, with the registry edits. My computer is getting up there, and I can max everything out with no problems, except for some weather effects (Valkurm is the worst)...but I turn them off cause they annoy me anyways.

And I'll believe the DX9 when I see it. It'd be nice, that's for sure, but I almost wonder if they'd really bother at this point. Then again, people have been griping for windowed-mode and auto-sort for years, and I never thought we'd be seeing them, either, so I'll have a little faith...

PC has the best graphics. Not opinion, just the truth.

PS2 < PS3 < 360 < PC
