FFXI Windowed Mode Issues

More than likely you guys aren't experiencing this, but I am.

As you know, SE finally, after how long, has allowed us to officially run Final Fantasy XI in Windowed mode. Now, I am a multitasker (What, you really expect me to just sit at my monitor while I LFG for 7-14 hours?). However, I've noticed that it's starting to become a pain in the rear to do anything while Final Fantasy XI is running in Windowed Mode.

First off, typing in any other application other than FFXI is a chore when you type a word and have to wait two seconds for a letter to appear, save for an entire word. Typing to your friends outside of the game have is a chore.

Second, alt-tabbing. Sometimes if you alt+tab or switch back to your game....it'll show the window, but it is treated as if it is behind something. It accepts no input from anywhere for a few seconds to ten minutes. So, I'm a sitting duck in Campaign and Besieged.

Anyone else suffering from these issues?

My hardware specs:
Athlon 1.6 Ghz (Single core)
GeForce 5200 128 MB Video Card (PCI version)
1 GB of RAM (333mhz DDR)

Do you think the upgrade to DX9 crippled my ability to play FFXI?

There was no upgrade to DX8.

Good lord, I've been told everywhere that there was a DX8 upgrade. Okay, ignore the DX8/9/etc. bit.

Is there a workaround to those issues, or am I screwed?

SE did a crappy job on their version of windowed mode...... go back to the "other" meathod ;p

Going to have to agree with Kailea on this one.

Even if they did "upgrade", it shouldn't hinder; but increase performance.

Believe it or not, I actually had to use the "Other" method to get around a freezing bug at that actually forced me to do a hard reset of my entire computer in the past.

You might try disabling HID-compatible devices if you haven't. I don't know if that was ever resolved, but when the windowed-mode update happen, that fixed some performance issues for me. I've never re-enabled them since. Probably won't do anything, but it's worth a shot.

The official windowed mode is completly crap.

in day time it's too bright and in the evenings it's too dark to see. The only time I use it is when I'm doing something like a quest and such. Other than that I play full screen as I dont like the other version way ;-p

Also I believe when in pt msn is NOT important and friends come AFTER FFXI LOL
