Well i just recently purchased a new cpu and installed FFXI on it. I go to play it after installing it and it has a constant skip issue. About every1.5 secs it skip ever so slighty and its seems to be at a constant interval. It doesnt make it unplayable but it really degrades the enjoyablity of it. I have read some ofrum saying that if you have a USB controller it will do that unpluged it still teh same issue. I updated all my video drivers nothing. I tried changing the res...nothing...cant seem to fidn the issue and im not a very cpu savy person just know basics so any help would be greatly apperciated. thank you.

Wait, did you purchase a whole new computer? Or did you purchase a new CPU?

| Re: FFXI skipping
Sadly, it has become extremely common for people to refer to the entire case and everything inside it as the "CPU", I think they call it that in some of the lower-level computer classes and such. Second most common misnomer for it being "Hard Drive". I suppose it doesn't help that there isn't a concise technical term for it ("system" and "computer" are both ambiguous as to how much they cover, "case" or "chassis" don't necessarily mean anything inside, "box" is more or less geek slang and non-intuitive). Precisely how is it "skipping"? If it's the sound that's skipping, I'm aware of an issue regarding that on multi-core systems (which most newer systems are now) and a workaround. If it's something more significant than that it could be anything from video driver problems to insufficient memory to processor issues to just being configured incorrectly. You'll need to give a more detailed description for us to diagnose it. If you can find the specs for your processor, memory size (onboard memory, not drive - right-click My Computer and select Properties to see this), video card model, etc. that may help as well. Also, what version of Windows are you using?

The "skipping" I believe is similar to like a 2ish FPS were all movement is jumpy, but I could be mistaken. >>Kloudrobs: Looks like you have a laptop, correct? I'd suggest trying to figure out how much RAM is being shared with the video, as it appears you have an on-board (video card is built into the motherboard). Generally they don't allocate very much of the system RAM (in your case the 2GB) toward the "video card's RAM". You should be able to view/change this via the startup BIOS configuration utility, usually access by pressing [Delete] during the initial boot up screen. Some systems use F2 or some other key combination, usually displayed on the screen somewhere. >>lovehatezero: Without some system information, it is going to be kind of hard to assess your problem. Also to both of you: Are you running FFXI with or without SE's Windower mod activated, if so have you tried running it without to see if the problem persists.

Alright Thanks ill try to give video more ram memory, Wierd enough it seems to be working beautifully today but i do think i should give video more ram just in case. No windower dont even know how to use it*It made me do a vista service pack update last night maybe that fixed it *cheers* well if it messes up again ill be back ![]() **Update Nope its back to doing the frame rate skip thingy again. Windowed mode or full screen both do it. I changed my video memory to 128 MB and the problem still persist. Dont know why it works randomly. Any ideas? Could it be a program maybe scanning in the background or something. I havnt been able to see any processes taking a lot of processing speed. I disabled my norton antivirus. ***I found it it may just be my work internet connection. When im home on my connection it runs smooth as a whistle but when im here it does that fps lag... Maybe they have some sort of port blocked or something that causes this. Last edited by Kloudrobs; 06-20-2008 at 11:52 AM. Reason: Update |
