Xbox 360 Controller on PC FFXI - HOWTO

Greetings all, First post

A lot of people on my LS have been asking me about getting their 360 controllers plugged into XI for the PC, espectially with the LT/RT Issues and Rumble support.

So, I wrote up a guide, and Made it into a nice, informative, picture-filled PDF.

This is my first time qriting such a guide, so if anyone could point ut any problems, it would be great.

People who use an XB360 controller, via USB, to play PC games. FFXI doesn't recognize the Triggers as buttons, because Windows recognizes them as each as an "Axis," hence, the same rules apply to them as do Joysticks.

You can't map Joysticks to buttons in FFXI, so this guide helps you get around that.

Thanks, OP, this is a real pain to me, because I had to make the Start Button my Auto Run, and the Select Button my Screen shot.

It works, but it's annoying. I'm at work now, so I'll download the files and post here if I get it to work.

nice guide but you need to note, that for 64-bit OS users, this wont work, because the drivers are unsigned -.- and at least Vista has been updated to where you cant disable the driver sign check.

That is a really jazzy idea, you can finally have the graphic support of a PC and the feel of a console game o.o;; I may have to see about doing this for my toaster at home to appease my girly while she's playing FFXI ^^ this seems to be more than a step above those that figured out how to connect the Wiimote to their computer

would also like to note, that I would only do this if you already have a wired 360 controller, if you dont, just go buy a 20$ USB controller (most look like PS2 controller) and use that

if i remember correctly, the play and charge kit WILL NOT transmit the data from a wireless controller. About 2 months ago i did the same thing, except i had to buy a wired controller to make it work. now tho, im not sure what kind of wireless the controllers use, but my PC had no wireless support. I am assuming tho that maybe it would work if it would pick up the signal and recognize the controller. i just remember that the kit ONLY charges, it does not transmit data.

Moonlancer, unless I'm mistaken, there is a USB attachment that makes the wireless XB360 controller compatible with PCs. It's not on the Gamestop site, but I'll Google it later when I get home.

Because based on the current state of the thread, I was supposed to know the exact content of a post that was made six days prior to me even knowing the existence of said thread. You don't need to know the exact state. Simple context would've been enough. Hell, even if it wasn't incredibly obvious what was said from context anyway, the simple fact that nobody had mentioned a CPU before my post, and a post before mine had been edited is enough to disregard it.

(I've attempted this previously. Couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use the 'triggersaredigital' file within the control panel.

I even got the damn Rumble to work. Now I'll know when Tremor Ram is nearby.

Man, I forgot what causes Rumble in this game, it's been like 2 years since I've had it, lol..

Which would be a prefered controller to use for the PC? There are one's that look like the ps2 controller but that seems to be kind of limiting... oh well i'll just pick up a usb controler this weekend and give it a go

why would it be limiting? the 360 and PS2 controllers, have the same amount of buttons

Limiting in general... I use a keyboard my girlfriend is a huge console gamer tho I personally just wouldnt be use to the console controller :D
