this is a forum for FINAL FANTASY XI, sorry.

on a serioous note, right click and look for compatibility options. Try to run it as '98 or something.

Re: operating system not recognized
Has the hardware or software of your computer changed since FFXI was working properly? If so, whatever has changed is your likely culprit. Check your vid card drivers, sound card drivers, do a system scan, try defragging, etc.

If you can't seem to find a problem, (or the problem is unique to Final Fantasy), try and do a reinstall. It sucks (particularly if you've got old versions of the discs), but sometimes it's necessary. If it's even possible (I've never tried, but is possible in other MMO's) you can back up your macro pallettes and such to make it a little less painful.

Don't know why XP would have any problems with it...I've been running FFXI on XP SP2 for almost 2 years and never had a problem (outside of unrelated hard drive failures and the occasional update that times out for no reason)

Re: operating system not recognized
FFXI in-game settings, including macros, are all located under C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER in a typical install. POL Viewer settings are stored in C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\pub\h ome01 (or home02 for second acount, home03 for third, etc. I think home00 is just a template, you don't need to preserve it.).

Good to know, I'll have to go back that stuff up now so that next time my hard drive decides to set itself on fire I don't have to rewrite tons of macro pallettes. Thank you!

Just curious, Dudemanx, did you ever figure out your problem?
