Re: PC Freezes
no messages, the screen turns black as if the game was starting, and it crashes back to the ff11 play online section.

Re: PC Freezes
The only times I get that is when I try to push the background res beyond 2048x2048. So maybe (long shot) could it be related to your graphic settings or some other application that doesn't allow XI to go into full screen mode?.

Sorry there isn't much I can help you with on this.

You know, you never answered that. That's sorta important. You've got to post up those details....or it hampers the people that are trying to give 'ya a hand.

Providing that you aren't using Vista, or if you are, and you've downloaded the Vista client from Playonline as has been questioned of you in the above quote, there are a couple of things that come to my mind and warrant some checking into....
  • You have a software conflict. In short, something that is currently running on your computer doesn't play nice with the POL software. While it isn't a very common occurrence, it can happen. You might try shutting down all of the misc. stuff that your computer is running and then try and run POL. Sometimes, you have to uninstall other software to resolve these issues....
  • You have some registry problems that are preventing your POL software from running correctly. This can cause freezes or just flat out not initialize the software that you are trying to run. I don't like screwing with the registry manually, so I use a program called ccleaner. It's also known as crap cleaner. It has a registry utility in it. While nothing is absolutely fool proof, I've been using this program for a little over a year and it hasn't killed my machine yet. You might take a look at it and decide if it's something that you'd like to try. It works for me, but YMMV. ...'tis also free.
  • You have/had malicious software on your computer that has modified part(s) of the OS that POL would need to run properly. Thus causing the freeze. These are generally most easily dealt with by a simple re-install of the OS. While some malicious software changes stuff that can be fixed, others flat out ruin your install....
  • You still have a HDD issue. I'm going to assume here that you still have your OS riding on your HDD that you suspect as faulty/failing. This could still cause the problem. If it were me, I would remove the drive that you think is bad...and then install my OS on the new drive and see if that cured the issue(leave the suspect drive out of the computer or disconnected....). Basically, I would just install the OS, update all of my drivers, get my windows updates done and then re-install the game. If I was satisfied that everything was working properly, I would then re-install all of the software that I had, one piece of software at a time, and check the functionality of POL in between each new software install. ...granted, I'm a bit of a goof, but if I'm going to go to all of the trouble of re-installing crap, I want to know exactly which if any of my current software might not possibly play nice with POL. (should you have more than one problem...and we can't say that you don't, even though you probably do.....) Some HDD's are a bit more sensitive to temperature than others...and some generate more heat than others as well. You may want to check what temperature your HDD(s) is/are running at and compare that temp to the max temp listed on the manufacturers website. If you are in spec, then cool. If not then I would suggest investing in a couple of HDD coolers. Cool HDD's are happy HDD's. Hot ones are prematurely dead ones.....
Anyway, that's all I can think of for the time being. After today, I won't be logging on for 5-6 days, as I'll be out of town(thankfully....I need a vacation...). I wish you the best of luck. If you have any computer savvy friends that you trust, you might enlist them to give you a hand.

If you don't know exactly what you have, you can always use this. Just don't post up anything like MAC addresses or IP numbers. Matter of fact, you should use that program. Give everybody here a fighting shot....

Doesn't this really say it all? ><
