Okay, so last night I was on FFXI on my PS3 just fine.


Today, I go to switch over to it because my bro wanted the PC again, and now it's giving me hell.


It keeps timing out the "notifying lobby server of current selections." part.


This is pissing me off royally, as I JUST had a party and I'm sure they've replaced me by now. God damn it I HATE IT WHEN THIS SHIT HAPPENS!


WTF? I see no announcements on POL, and my friend who's on PS2 is having no issues. All my internet connections and settings are fine, but my PS3 issuddelny lagging and bitching at me by either telling me to check my connections, my character is already logged in, or timing out.

It does seem like a connection problem, but it's usually your ISP when that happens.

XI is really special when it comes to connection, that's why I got DSL instead of cable because I used to get those episodes all the time.

But since you say your connection is ok I don't know what else it could be.

Okay it's working again and I know what did it.


My ****tard brother replaced our modem a while back with a "tweaked" one he got from a friend of his, who got it from some guy that wanted $300.00 for it.

Well what happened was I switched back to our original modem (the one we got from our ISP) but then the IDIOT switched it back and gave back the wrong modem...

and this stupid "tweaked" one goes out from time to time, which is what just happened. I fucking hate this, I want the modem we're supposed to have back, especially since I do believe we have to return it if/when we change ISP's or what have you. I want a stable fucking connection again - _ -

Question. What does the "tweaked" one do that your ISP's modem doesn't? Why is it "tweaked" in the first place?

I don't, I corrected it in my last post. It's my bro's stupid fault with another of his "good" ideas.


Basically, the modem he got from this guy is "tweaked" to run off some private ISP I guess and is 4x as faster (supposedly, though it does run faster) than the one we got from our current ISP Rogers Cable.


Ugh, I just hope he can get the modem we're supposed to have back, seeing as our parents are paying for the internet and we're not even technically using it. The Rogers network may be a slower, but was a helluva lot more stable.

On the other hand, ever since we got this router we've been having the same stupid connection issues so the problem may actually lie there.


Long story short: I hate internet devices with the passion of a 1000 suns. God forbid anything should work out of the box these days.

Which means that either you're stealing cable (I highly doubt you could steal internet services without them knowing, though), your brother signed up for another ISP, or you're just using a shitty modem.

You should know if you're on another ISP, which would also explain the unreliablity and speed increases. Just get your normal modem back, put it back on, and tell your brother that if he does it again you'll tell your parents how he's damaging the internet or something.

I run redundant firewalls using OpenBSD on 2 older Sun pizza boxes. It cost a grand total of $50 and it can be tweaked to kingdom come.

That's the thing, he never paid the guy. When he went to give back the modem, he gave the wrong one back - _ - and now his friend can't track this guy down. It's a really god awful mess and I hate it whenever my tard bro comes up with one of his "good ideas"


UPDATE: POL and FFXI are now officially screwed up on my PS3. It wont' even display my HP or stats or other ppl just says "Downloading data" perpetually. Everything else on the network works fine, but my PS3 is just plain fucked atm. WTF > <

Further update: Ok, got it working again... I'm positive it's the crappy linkysis router.

I had a lowsy Linksys router...but it got storm fried! Since I was lazy I went out and got a brand new version of the same thing and it works 100% better than the old one XD
