I get a "Direct3D error, your system does not meet the requirements".
Ive tried:
-XP compatibility mode
-Fresh install with "Vista" Play Online download
-Changing resolution using regedit (incase it was a res issue)
Why isnt Square Enix doing anything about Vista users...? Is there any official word on these problems with Vista?
All my other games work flawlessly with Vista. These include Bioshock, CS:Source, Anarchy Online, Medieval Total War 2, Quake 3, Civ 4, Stalker etc etc...
Huge range of games and only problems with FFXI...
Not sure if this will help anyone but I've noticed installing FFXI on any other drive but C: will guarantee a failure to load the game. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 05:25 AM | #2 (permalink) | | RADIO GOO GOO Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: Oct 2004 Posts: 6,547 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1,627 Thanked 1,419x in 996 Posts Gil: 20,603 Bank: 245,744 Total Gil: 266,348 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista You do realize that Microsoft made Vista, not SE, right?
SE can't fix problems with Vista. They can try to work around them, but given that Microsoft is probably not giving them much help there's not much they can do, especially given both sides are probably blaming each other. It's nVidia all over again.
Short story of it is, find a way to deal with it, or don't use Vista. | Originally Posted by someone who just spent ten minutes with feba | | wtf? I am horribly disoriented and scared. Install the Vista POL and fully update it
Install FFXI and the expansions and fully update them
you should not have to choose any of the compatibility options.
but before doing all that, update/reinstall your video drivers, its a video error, don't blame Vista | | ::Quote Selected:: | | The following user says "Thank You" to Kailea for above post: | | | 08-31-2007, 05:31 AM | #4 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 20 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 116 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 116 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista Originally Posted by Feba | You do realize that Microsoft made Vista, not SE, right?

Game developers have programmed their games to work with Vista. Almost all games work 100% fine with Vista.
SE need to program the game to work with Vista if the OS continues to grow.. Its nothing to do with Microsoft.
Vista will just keep growing and growing, especially with DX10 games.
SE need to sort this out, just like every other game developer has. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 05:32 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Senior Veteran Oracle of Knowledge Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 4,436 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 104 Thanked 1,305x in 791 Posts Gil: 4,686 Bank: 92,658 Total Gil: 97,344 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista Originally Posted by Vistrix | | Why isnt Square Enix doing anything about Vista users...? It works just fine for everyone else running FFXI on Vista, so any problem isn't SE's to deal with. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 05:33 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 20 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 116 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 116 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista Originally Posted by Kailea | yeah I would agree with Feba here, but really all these people having "problems" I have not had one problem running FFXI in Vista.

Im running 7.8 Catalyst drivers.
A64 4200+ x2
Radeon X1950pro
2gb Corsair XMS PC3200
Any idea what that could be? Running Vista Business... Originally Posted by Mhurron | | They did, they wrote a POL client just for Vista users. The problems you're having are either Vista itself (unlikely) or something you've done (likely). | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 05:40 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 2,105 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 17 Thanked 65x in 50 Posts Gil: 841,174 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 841,174 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista this is going to sound odd.... but download and use Cat 7.4 and try that, I have had problems with all the versions after 7.4

Ill try that tonight...
Vista has some nice security features and event logs...heres what it says happend when it crashed in the event log: | Quote: | | A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (PlayOnline Viewer) | Not sure what that means, but its logged about 15 times in the space of a few seconds, weird. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 05:59 AM | #12 (permalink) | | Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 2,105 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 17 Thanked 65x in 50 Posts Gil: 841,174 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 841,174 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista ooooohhhhhhhhh
make sure Vista POL is running in admin mode as well, and check the last 3 check boxes in settings under compatibility | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 04:02 PM | #13 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2006 Posts: 20 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 116 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 116 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista Ok tried what you suggest and it didnt work...
I just got off the phone to Square Enix and they said that my card (X1950 pro), is not supported. The X1xxxx range is not supported at all and cant run FFXI.
Really terrible...I did check the FFXI website and it doesnt list the X1xxxx range.
Looks like I just wasted a months fee. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 08-31-2007, 07:16 PM | #14 (permalink) | | Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Jan 2004 Posts: 2,105 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 17 Thanked 65x in 50 Posts Gil: 841,174 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 841,174 Donate | Re: Getting FFXI to work with Vista I have a Radion x1950 pro as well -.-
mmm well make sure to do ALL of this togeather as a fix and see if it helps
install 7.4 cat
update direct X to latest (try and update it even if you think you already are)
run POL.exe in admin mode and make sure the last 3 boxs under settings are checked in the compatibility tab
doing all this at once should fix it...if not, I am out of ideas ;p
oh and if you edit the registry to change your resolution, change it to something normal like 1024x768, and see if that does anything | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
