typing in japanese with a non japanese os

Hello,

Im new to this whole FFXI-thing. If this is a repost of an old topic. Then I'm sorry. I tried to look through the forums but couldnt find the answer anywhere...

I just bought FFXI yesterday and installed it on my swedish OS. And now, no matter what what I try I can't write in japanese in the game, even though I use the japanese client. This kind of bugs me, since I have japanese friends I'd like to play with and romaji really is annyoing to use. So I was just wondering if anyone knows any way around this that is not an illegal hack or generally frowned upon?

I'd be gratefull for any answers...

Not sure if Swedish OS has this but, go into region settings > advance tab. Set the "default language for non-unicode program" to Japanese.

Also, set your japanese IME to default input, will make life easier.

Thanks for the quick answer.. I tried what you said (that option was where you said it would be) but for some reason it wont work. Oh well, I guess Ill have to keep trying diffrent things, hopefully one of these days something will work =D.

Are you sure you're using the Japanese client? In game, to switch between english and Japanese (again, depends onwhat you have set), you press alt and ~ together.

thank you, the whole problem was that I didnt have the right keys on my swedish keyboard to switch the input methods... yeah I now I'm stupid. (*^^*)

But I went out and got myself a nice japanese style keyboard and now it works like a charm! Woho!
