| R0, What do I do?
Hello, I've just returned fron a small break from FFXI. And since then(Sat Morning),The game has gone into R0 mode every 30 to 45 minutes. Almost like clockwork, It does it on both main char and my mules. I'm at a loss what to do,never had this problem before today. But It is putting a major dent in my plans to finish GK1 and grab those boots. I'm posting from Central Fla.anyone else from the area having the same prob? My DSL line runs fine,no noticeable changes in the way the net runs smoothly. Any help with this,links,helpful tips? I'll check this post again around 11am EST Sunday. Thank you very much in advance

Do you use a router? If you do, you'll need to open up ports to let packets through. If not, maybe a paticularly stubborn firewall is the cause. Just set it to allow POL and FFXI to access the internet. If all else fails, check your computer for spyware and malware. That can slow your connection down considerably. |

* * * To OP, Can you keep an eye on your DSL modem? See if it blinks funny at you. <_<; If you see it losing connection and then reconnect, that's likely the culprit. (If connection lost time is short, it may not be very noticeable web browsing, but can still kill FFXI's connection.)

Change your router, try connecting it directly and if it dosn't fix the problem it's an ISP problem. If it does fix the problem you need a new router. As far as I know, FFXI got an update a few months back which fucked with alot of people. When I returned I had the same problem (I was using a 4year old router, that didn't use to have problems). If you check my post history for my connection problems post you'll see I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. I took down my parents old router and put my new, fab. one up, and BAM no problems.

Thanks fellas, I'm thinking it is the Modem.(Didn't realize It is 3 years old). Westell 2100 I got with verizon service. Guess 3 years is a pretty long lifespan eh? Anyway,Thanks for the replies.Gonna head to town to price modems....

Modem != Router.

Before you mess around with the modem, do this: Start > Run > cmd (type "cmd" at the prompt and hit Enter) In the black box, type: tracert www.playonline.com Look at the list of IP addresses that comes up. If you see any connection times that are greater than perhaps 400ms or if the trace fails to complete all the way (hangs and just produces "*"s and eventually gives up), there's a connection problem on the Internet itself which has nothing to do with your hardware or software (most often caused by having a horrible ISP). I went ahead and did a total system restore. Have about 1 1/2 hours left on the update, and so far no disconnect(/em crosses fingers). Thanks to all who replied and as always............/salute!
