Hiya everyone, I'm kinda new to the forum, so first of all hiya and thanks for having me in your little cozy hole here.
Secondly, I'm having a little problem with Final Fantasy XI on Windows Vista. Installation is fine, I'm having no problems until I attempt to run the game. When I do this, it seems as though it is loading fine, and then as soon as it's supposed to start, I receive an error message which is worded something like "Cannot find the file PlayOnline Viewer Tetra Master.msi" or if it's not "can't find it" then it's got something to do with that file. After trying to locate this file, it simply closes down and PlayOnline states that there has been a problem with Final Fantasy XI.
Anybody know what's going on? Would massively appreciate help.

Make sure you have the Playonline Vista-specific client. You can download it from Playonline.com.

I've got the Vista-specific POL client, but it still seems to be happening. The exact error message is "The feature that you are trying to access is on a network resource that is unavailable". If that's not the exact one then the exact one sounds like that. ^_^

I'm not familiar with that message, but it sounds like it might have something to do with accounts and certain access rights on your computer. Are you on the Owner account on your computer?

I seem to recall that some people are needing to right-click the shortcut and "run as administrator" in Vista. That being said, I just got a new laptop with Vista, installed Vista POL and FFXI, and have had no problems running FFXI.

Wasn't it right clicking and selecting the compatability for it? I don't know.

See, the thing you're all forgetting here is that Vista is an entertainment OS, not a computing OS. If you want a computer, stick to XP, or switch to Linux or OS X. Vista is just a step in the direction of merging the lines between Xbox and Desktop. There is no good reason to use Vista over XP yet. And don't use the flashy GUI as an excuse, if you want true window management, get Linux with Compiz or OS X- honestly, Vista's "Aero" shit is a HUGE OS X ripoff. If you wanted me to, I could find half a dozen videos on youtube showing parts of Vista's GUI that are practically cut and paste of OS X. And not the stuff that's just so awesome you'd be an idiot to leave it out, like right click, I mean the stuff that Microsoft is actually BRAGGING about, like their search function. There's plenty of other options out there that work better AND look better, not to mention being less demanding on hardware.

I really recommend just switching back to XP.

I mean sure, you might be able to ride around on a horse that got shot in the face, but chances are, you're going to be doing all the work, and dragging that horse around, which is a sign of a bad horse.

Hahaha, somehow I knew this thread would turn into a Vista debate. They all do. Still, it's cool, I switched off the opening movie and for some reason the game then decided to work. Just goes to show. >.<

Technically, nobody is debating vista, just saying it's a crappy OS ^^b Glad it works for you. Yeah, weird stuff like that happens. I used to have to turn off Simplified Character Creation visuals, then I reformatted, reinstalled XP, and they worked fine. Who knows with some of these things.
