If your game crashed right when you run it, it's the POL I guess, you haven't got to the FFXI part yet.
Check the POL config and maybe toggle fullscreen/windows and see if any of that works? There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

it still showed a black screen for a second and closed out and went back to my desktop. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-01-2007, 11:36 AM | #5 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 13 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 70 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 70 Donate | Re: POL, TM, and FFXI doesn't load. please help. is there anything else i can do to get play online working? | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-01-2007, 01:00 PM | #6 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Oregon Posts: 38 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 2 Thanked 3x in 3 Posts Gil: 154 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 154 Donate | Re: POL, TM, and FFXI doesn't load. please help. I would try going into msconfig.exe and removing like every program except things in the windows directory, and .dlls that look legit, then restart the PC. And see if the program runs better when it is "alone" | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-01-2007, 02:05 PM | #7 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 13 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 70 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 70 Donate | Re: POL, TM, and FFXI doesn't load. please help. i tried your method too, cakemeat, but it didn't work either. i went to the official website to see the system requirements and i saw that i met all of them, so i have no idea how to fix this problem.
i even searched around the forum for a good answer, but i couldn't find anyone else that had the same problem as me. when there was, the methods that were posted didn't help me at all. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 01-01-2007, 02:21 PM | #9 (permalink) | | Digital Wizard Super Moderator Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: Florida, USA Posts: 5,987 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 69 Thanked 457x in 300 Posts Gil: 2,615 Bank: 76,083 Total Gil: 78,698 Donate | Re: POL, TM, and FFXI doesn't load. please help. Is that DirectX 8.0 or 8.1? FFXI requires at least version 8.1 (and plays nice with version 9 as well).
Also, have you checked the Windows Application Event Log for possible telltale errors?
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > System Tools > Application.
Check the list to see if any errors appear when PlayOnline shuts down.

Maybe try safe mode installation, windows doesnt always allow this to work. but it could.
Other then that. maybe try putting a 'fake' or irrelevent tag on the program startup line. Right click on the POL shortcut and goto properties...
Eg. in halflife you could put -w (windowed) after c:/blah/~/~halflife.exe in the run target box. Just try this to trick the program into executing differently.
Also, the opposite of that could be to go into the run target and remove any "-X" sorta tags | | ::Quote Selected:: | | The following user says "Thank You" to cakemeat for above post: | | | 01-01-2007, 03:13 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 13 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 70 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 70 Donate | Re: POL, TM, and FFXI doesn't load. please help.
