odd sound issue causing game to hard crash.

I had this problem about a week ago.

Was walking through altepa and the screen went blank and a strange whistling noise.

I eventually tracked it down to one thing.

I use F-secure security for firewall/virus scan/malware/spyware scan etc.

someone tried to hack into me and was blocked. The window that normally pops up to notify you of this poped up but due to the game being in full screen mode, it couldn't show and Alt+tab has never worked in game to switch to my desktop (as i don't use windower). This may not be it, bu thats what happened to me. alos I am on BT broadband like yourself, they have had a few problems recently with their servers and I hve suffered a few D/C's due to this, maybe you lost all downstreem quickly and the game music just played the note over and over again (had that happen before) did you check the up/downstreem numebrs in teh top right?

ok, I seem to have fixed it, one thing I forgot to mention along with the crashing, was that some taskbar icons wouldn't appear, yet the process were still running. Seems to be an issue with "Enabling icons for networked UPnP devices." and also with SSDP (Simple Service Discovery Protocol).

Disabled the icons and it seems to have resolved the taskbar and sound issue, and system actually seems to be running more stable than before.

Glad to hear yours is working fine now. Still got to see what's up with mine, after getting the install stuff fixed I had a hacker attack my system. After I stopped that though it's been having wierd memmory issues were it's like the RAM is just dumping the data and locks the systems. It's very sparatic, can lock while attempting to login, or other areas (Locked once just after login in and it was loading the startup programs). Locked again when I was playing a game, though now that I think about it last night when it was doing that in a game I did catch what looked like a window loading and loosing focus into the background.

Suspecting that maybe I didn't get rid of everything the hacker had done.
