Re: Need help on japanese POL

The IME in the Japanese version is for Japanese versions of the Chinese characters. It doesn't have the complete set of current Chinese characters, and doesn't use the Chinese method of inputting them. Supported input of text is Japanese and Roman characters only. There is no Chinese-language version of the game available, and no support for the Chinese IME.

I have no idea how to enable chinese. I've never seen one myself.

Why not ask those players then and report the answer back here...?

Re: Need help on japanese POL

with the IME (+bar set to TW/CN) you can type quite a few number of characters that will show up in FFXI, but that's only because it shares the same character sets as JP kanji (as you know kanji is based off Chinese characters).. so it's limited to the kanji in the Japanese language - leaving out a bunch of CN characs.

This must mean that FFXI is coded using non-Unicode coding base, probably Shift_JIS. And if that's the case, not only it can't input non-Japanese characters, but also it can't even display them, as it doesn't know how to handle them.

Look closer to those "complete" Chinese they typed. I assume there were some character inconsistencies. But if not, it may be using Unicode indeed, and that it can display all of them correctly.
