Proublem with the PSX to USB Converter from RadioShack
Hi everyone,
I have not played ffxi for the past 2-3 weeks and I wanted to play it again this weekend. I use the PSX to USB converter from RadioShack to play, but I let my friend barrow it for a few days. I got it back and now it would not work when I pluged it into my computer. Windows just says that it is a unknown USB device. I have not updated or reinstalled windows in the time sence I last used it, and my friend just had it working a few days ago.

Anyone got any ideas on what my proublem is?

Thanks,
Ifandbut

Ask your friend what he did to it lol

Re: Proublem with the PSX to USB Converter from RadioShack
Try putting it to the exact same USB port on your PC, and then cold boot. Sometimes USB devices go nuts once they're pluged into a different port, and things like your case could happen.

If this doesn't work, try;

1. Unplug the adaptor
2. Uninstall the driver for your adaptor (from Control Panel)
3. Reboot (Don't plug it back in yet)
4. Install the driver again, reboot if asked to do so
5. Plug the adaptor back in, and it should be automatically recognized

Note that doing this will likely reset the FFXI's gamepad configuration, so be sure to check it, and if needed, reconfigure. Also, 2. above may not be possible from Control Panel, and if that's the case, you'll need to search for how to manually remove the driver for this specific device.

If you haven't changed anything in the software side, then it's a hardware problem. Either the unit isn't plugged in correctly, or you've got some damaged hardware someplace (USB port, plug, cable, etc.).

I own three of these PSX>USB converters from Radio Shack and they all work fine for me (so it's not an Windows or FFXI update, I assure you).

Re: Proublem with the PSX to USB Converter from RadioShack
Thanks for the quick replies. I just realised that the USB plug has about a 30 degree bend in it, that could be shorting some wires or something. I'm going to try to install the drivers on a different computer and see if I can get it to work with drivers I found on radioshack's website.

i have the original driver cd and if you need the drivers let me know.

Sometimes when I install usb drivers it will only register for the original usb port the device is connected to. Try plugging it into the same port you always do, reinstall the drivers and reboot.

Yeah and reconfigure your controller for ffxi after you reinstall the drivers.
