I have FFXI on the PS2..... I went to install the 2 expansion packs.. I had to cancel the installation and now I can't even get the game to play. What can I do to fix this?

Re: I frigged something up...
I am fairly positive that when CoP was released there was a big message saying "DO NOT CANCEL YOUR INSTALATION" posted on Pol's website. I am pretty sure you need to uninstall and reinstall the entire game now.

Character information is stored server-side. So no, You won't lose your character.

You shouldn't... um, you did remember to write down your POL ID and Password in the manual like it tells you to, right? If not, forget everything I just said. If you did, then using that wonderful ID and Password, just reinstall the game from scratch and when it asks if you want to start a new account or use an existing one, imput your old ID and Password. All your character info is saved Server-side instead of Client-side, meaning at worst you lose your macros.

Yeah, it's not as hairy a process as you might think at first. We PC users are notorious for wiping our computers and starting over from scratch once every few months. No ill effects so far, other than a hard drive that suddenly looks like it has waaaaaaayy too much room on it for as long as you've been playing.

Thanks guys. I was worried for a moment! I mean I'm not but level 26.. but I still didn't wanna start all over again. While I am here..... Which is better in your opinions.. The PS2 version or the PC version?

That's strictly a matter of opinion. I've seen the game on the PS2, the 360 and a computer running it under both Windows XP and Windows Vista RC1.

I prefer the looks of a 512 meg video card and a flat-screen monitor over a PS2 / 360. But I have a feeling it probably runs smoother and quicker with less graphical requirements for a PS2.

Xbox is comparable I think to a Mid-grade PC.

Another thing is whether or not you want to have to purchase a controller to play, or have one as your primary input. I prefer the keyboard myself. I like all the text commands, reminds me of my old days in MS-DOS playing Angband.

Re: I frigged something up...
Alas.. another question. I deleted my playonline and other stuff.. so now I go to install the software again and my ps2 won't read the disc. It will read the Final Fantasy disc. But not the playonline disc. The only time it has been out of the package was to load it the first time and then it was put back in the case and stored on my shelf. Not a scratch or fingerprint on it. A friend of mine says it's my ps2 because it dosent load games like it used to. It goes to the screen where you access your memory cards and such instead of loading the game after you turn it on like it did when I first bought it. Now.. my question. Do you htink this is the real reason it wont load correctly? I am so frustrated. I love this game, but sometimes I wonder why I try to do anything with it.

Re: I frigged something up...
Regarding the earlier question:
PC version beats all others. It's relatively easy to repair or replace a busted PC component. It's not easy to do that to either the PS2 or XBox 360.

If your drive is malfunctioning on your PS2 (a very common problem), well... I don't know of any sure fixes for it. Sony no longer supports the older-style PS2s that accept the PS2 HDD, but perhaps someone out there knows of someplace that can replace the DVD reader component?...

Thanks Icemage

My ps2 will load almost all of my ps2 games but it loads them in a very strange way. When I first got it.. I turned it on and it would load to the screen to select Browser and System. Once there it would pause for a few seconds and then load the game. Now I have to select browser and go to the screen that allows you to manage your memory cards and wait for the disk to load. Sometimes it dosen't load and I have to open and close the tray a couple of times.

A friend of mine said hers started doing that right before it pretty much died on her. I got this ps2 when it first came out and I didn't realize how old it is until it started doing this. If I have to end up getting a new ps2 can I play this game on the slim versions or do I need to try to find a refurbished older model ps2? I am doubting the hdd will fit into the slim ps2... but you never know...

I am hoping that is just the ps2 and not the game disk. If it is the disk I might as well just dish out the $40 bucks and get a new game from Wal*Mart here in town..... They are on clearance... And hope that I didn't wast the money.

Re: I frigged something up...
The new Slim PS2s do not support the HDD. For one it is too thin and secondly, it has the network adapter intergrated with the unit. The HDD needs the Network adapter plugged into it from the back to work.

The title of this thread made me think of female masturbation.
I am disapointed.
