Ok, first off, sorry if this is in the wrong area, i'm kinda new.

Second: I recently re-formatted my computer and i need to re-update FFXI, unfortunatly, that is 14K files big, and my computer keeps losing connection or trhe server becomes too busy so all i'm asking is 2 questions.

1: is there a website where i can download the nessicarry 14K odd files and

2: is it possible to download and install the updates manualy (not via playonline) and Playonline actully notices the files?

Not very likley and I wouldn't really recommend grabbing files from any odd site that isn't Playonline, not for that many files. Could be miss-match issues and other things that'll just mess up the game and likely force you back to square one again.

I'd look into why your computer is losing connection first, get that resolved and then should have less problems handling the other stuff.

Yah, I've sussed the connection problem out now (moved the compy to where it could breath XD) but now it takes ages because of the upload size (if there is only 3K+ files to DOWNLOAD. where is there 14K to prepare for update o.O)

Hmm, would the newer FFXI dvd set help? (i got the old 7 disk set from the UK release date.

Also, if i was stopped because the server was busy, what times would you suggest starting the update?

if i understand what you are asking, the preparing files stage, is a diagnostic phase, when the contents of what you have are checked against what is needed to download. after the preparing, it downloads what you need, and then installs them.

Buying the dvd version will not help much if at all (except less disk swaping), even with a fast connection it can take forever to update (I know this well). About the only thing that help can cut down the download time is backing up the current version of the FFXI files on another hard drive or a dvd or 2. But unless you are planing to reinstall windows backing up those files can be an issue.

And for time of day hmm...... In I would try updateing in the morning when server trafic might be the lowest.

When I installed FFXI on my laptop, I backed up the ROM, USER, and MUSIC directories onto two DVD's. Just overwrite the existing folders after you update the POL viewer, and you should be set.

Thats just it, i dont have the files, thats why i asked if there was a website that done the files

no there is not. unfortunately, if you didn't back them up before, you are just going to have to sit through the whole update process all over again.

If your POL is DCing regularly, check your network logs and see if you're getting UDP floods. I'm not exactly sure what I did to stop mine, but you could at least look into it.



Do you disconnect from AIM/Trillian consistantly too?
