Been meaning to ask this for a while but I keep forgeting o.O What effects the loading times in FFXI, is it your processor speed, ram etc or just your internet connection?

Probably a combination. But I think RAM would play the largest part? I know when I played EQ2 I had really long load times, but after I doubled my RAM, it sped up considerably.

I would guess a combination of the 3 also, though I think the RAM and Connection Speed are the most important. I think that RAM and Connection speed are probably equally important - having 2GB RAM and a dial-up connection is probably just as good as 128MB RAM and a broadband connnection. As with most things in life, balance is key. Have a decent connection, and a decent ammount of RAM, and all should be good.
