| Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?
I dont see the problem.... I am running Vista home premium x64 and all I did was get POL vista version from their site, FFXI works fine for me the only thing I think I did was run the POL Vista setup in XP compatibility, but that was it. |

And I have quitted Whining since I cba to whine at these people ;p And yes, I do need that article you read D: if you can mail me or post it in a link here, that'd be super. And yes, I have tried that Vista patch from square. FFXi then proclaimed I didn't have POL installed while POL said I didn't have FFXI installed. And to fix any of these problems, it was required to reinstall POL or FFXI depending on which you tried. Also known as a Evil Circle <_> ^^ Last edited by Zica; 07-24-2007 at 11:40 AM.

What sucks though is that I think I have tried that, only to have FFXI tell me to install POL since it didn't find Vista POL T_T Gonna try it on Friday perhaps then I think. Thanks for the tip!

1. Install the Vista POL first. 2. REBOOT (This is important) 3. Connect to POL. 4. D/L any updates. (This is important) 5. REBOOT again. 6. Now, install your FFXI client. 7. Depending on what you're installing with, you might have just the whole thing (including expansions) installed all at once, or if you're like me, with expansions on individual install packages, reboot after installing each and every expansion package and also update through POL the client. I call it update staggering (Besides, you don't really want to do the 7+ hour update if you're like me in this regard) After each reboot, you can then diagnose at which point you will encounter your problem. Was it at the POL install? POL patching? Client install? Client patching? etc. Sometimes, depending on system configuration, 3rd party software installed and even your OS, either the registry does not get updated, registry is too worked over to update properly or there's even some weird bug in your system that this is the preferred method of installing anything and doubles as a way to troubleshoot your problem as well. Hope this helps.

I kinda want a new laptop with Vista Home Premium, and a graphics card that'll handle the bells and whistles... but with problems like these, I'm scared.. >_>;;

its not really a problem, download the Vista POL and install it instead of the one on the CD or DVD, then install FFXI and each expansion like normal.

My Mood: | Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm? What's your build, because I see that you had no problems running FFXI on a 64 bit system. and I've read that 64 bit systems take the best advantage of Dual Cores.

you have to give a little more info, are you installing POL from the disk, or are you installing Vista POL from the FFXI website. you need to go here.... Vista POL page and download Vista POL, then install it, after that fully update POL by logging into it and letting it update. After that install FFXI and each expansion in order, and then after logging in and updating the game itself, you should be good to go.

Okay, so I got the Complete Set..I downloaded it as a torrent =P So yeah, I installed POL first, then Installation PART I, PART II AND THEN PART III. And when I try to run it, it says it cannot run under system etc. So what I'm going to do now is download the POL Vista version (I guess) from the link that you gave me. So should I uninstall all the POL, Game Installion I, II, AND III. Before installing this POL Vista version or what ?

yes to be safe, and avoid hassle, uninstall everything, then install Vista POL, then update it, then install all the FFXI stuff, then update it ;p
