I didnt say the problem wasnt vista related I said it wasnt JUST vista related. I used the original FFXI package with the Chains and Zilart expansions. I also have Treasures and WOG as separate expansions.

I used the disks on both of my desktops, both have a vista O/S. One works fine and one doesnt. So how can it only be vista related?

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

Time to give friendly computer advice to those who want to use Vista with a hint of Microsoft bashing!

Ok boys and girls, Vista has been out for a little bit over a year. People at the WoW forums (and many others) have been bashing Vista as much as they bashed XP when it first came out. Why? Resource hogging piece of garbage is what most people see it as. Frame rate losses go from 10-15% to as much as 50% for games in general. DX10 is so bugged up that going from DX9 to 10 causes you to lose at least 35% frames (Crysis, Hellgate London). So how do we solve this issue?

DO NOT USE VISTA

I am using Vista 64 bit, but here is my machine:
Q6600 @ 3.8 ghz air cooled
4.0gigs DDR933mhz RAM (could go higher but meh, multiplier issues)
2 Terabytes of HD space running RAID0
Geforce 8800GT overclocked and bios flashed to a 8800 Ultra and STABLE (NOT stock cooled)

My issues with Vista? Well, DX9 is fine, if I run DX10, I want to throw my computer out of the Window.

I am going to assume that people running Vista and having FFXI issues are on laptops that came with Vista. If you are a PC user with specs lower than what I just listed, get the flaming HELL off Vista and back to XP. For those that bought laptops and were forced into Vista, two things are your friend:

msconfig
services.msc

Look up on google what things you can turn off. These two programs are what controls startup programs and services. You turn them off, you can save a lot of RAM and CPU usage. If you have a system that is close to my specs, it doesn't make much of a difference unless you know what you're doing.

Now my question is: the majority of people who are having FFXI issues with Vista have PCs that are...well, Vista eats them alive. Why are you using Vista?

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

I only see problems with Vista, if you try and run it at minimum specs..... If you have a high end system,, witch is what Vista was made for, you will be fine.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

Well finally managed to fix my problem.

I started down the route of removing HID compliant devices in device manager with no avail. Still the 2 second lag I was complaining about.

I was still convinced though that it was something different from my other vista setup so via the process of elimination I narrowed it down to my linksys usb wireless adapter. The moment I removed that and used a borrowed netgear wireless usb adapter the lag went.

Problem resolved.

Still note though I am using the beta 169.17 drivers for my 8800 ultras.

Regards

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

Sent the laptop I was using in for service. (typically a blue screen on an os install = bad juju). I'll get it back tonight but they said the RAM was bad. Since the video card uses shared memory I'm sure that caused a problem as well. I'll try to reinstall FFXI tonight and see how she goes.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

Bought the starter pack(says vista on the back) but I can't get anything other than POL to install, and even POL won't run. Tried downloading the POL off the net and same message. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and nothing. I also can't access POL in regedit. Everything else I can. I am on an administrator account. No idea what to do.

right click on the installer exe and make sure the admin box is checked, even though your in "admin" Vista is still a bastard about that ;p Might even try running in XP compatibility when you install it

people still do Beseiged?

if you get DC'ed regularly in Beseiged, then go do some Campaigns. You can earn just as much, if not more exp in a much shorter time.

8800 GTS 512 MB G92 + Vista 64 bit FIXXXXX!

I've been reading and researching for 3 hours on this.

I just put Vista Business 64 bit on my desktop 3 days ago and i noticed FFXI was choppy and undesirable but I tried downloading a Beta Driver from the Nvidia website to help me out.

I used driver: 175.12 which came out in April 2008 to solve this.

It is found here: NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search

Just enter your information on what cards you have and OS and you will find one.

FFXI now runs like it ran on windows XP for me.

Again my system in complete detail is:

Windows: Vista Business 64 Bit Edition
Graphics: 2 Geforce 8800 GTS 512 MB (G92) in SLI
Physics: BFG Tech brand Ageia Physx Card
Memory: 2 gigs of DDR RAM
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 2.2 Ghz
HD: Raptor X 150 Gig 10,000 RPM Hard Drive

My FFXI runs perfectly, I have yet to test my other guys but I assume since its a new driver all should be fine!

my AIM name is Xionraserei if you have any questions, I will only help you if you have the same graphics card as I do, no Messages otherwise please, thank you!

Really? You should tell Microsoft. They keep forcing manufacturers to sell systems that can barely run Vista with Vista as the only option.

yeah I know..... I work on Dell desktop/laptops on a daily basis. Every time I see a Laptop/desktop with 1gb ram and Vista HP on it... I twitch

Thats part the manufacturers fault as well, for letting MS do that. No one seems to know the word "NO" anymore.

I have 2 systems in the house running Vista HP perfectly fine

a custom built PC with 4gb ram and a laptop with 2gb ram
one quad core and one dual

Vista was made for higher end PCs, hell MS even said so. So its funny that now they keep trying to put them on generic standered PCs and Laptops and then wonder why they run like crap.

This will show you how to install IME for Vista. As for getting it to work for FFXI? I have no idea.
