Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

sorry, suppose I should clarify. Settings, the first slider under 3D, performance to quality, or if you are using custom setting such as specific Anti Aliasing etc, let me know. I have mine under the High Quality or whatever it is all the way to the right.

I have mine all the way to the right, but I did change it to performance to see if that was the trouble with FFXI before.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

ok, tried going back to an older driver version, nothing, going to go back to DX9 and see what happens
______________________________
ok, you can't go back to DX9, and it can't be un installed, so as far as that goes we're screwed. so far the facts are, Both of us are using ATI cards, both of us are using Vista, both of us have DX10, and have updated ATI drivers. I have eliminated the driver theory, based on everyone elses posts I have been through, it isn't Vista. Has to be ATI chipset, or DX10, unless anyone else can hop in here and shed some light on something I have not thought of.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

seems there is a forum on alla with someone having the same issue, but with a nVidia card, so rule out the card being an issue. BUT, he is running Vista.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

Before playing FFXI(Vista), disable ReadyBoost, SuperFetch and Windows search in services.msc then restart windows.
Don't really need those to do stuff in background while playing FFXI, it just makes the harddrive keep gathering the information before next request.

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

ok, i'm at work now, but when I get home I'm gonna try to uninstall Norton, I have heard horror stories about norton and online gaming. I have searched around, there is one person on Alla, and someone else in another forum with the same issues. Run in the start line "DXDIAG" and let me know what kind of motherboard you are running. I have also been doing some research into the Vista service pack, though still in it's pre release trials, I may guinea pig myself for the sake of the FFXI community :p I miss my game damnit
______________________________
I have also read about Aero interfering with things, but I tried disablingt that to no luck. gonna recap

1. Seems to be narrowed to Vista OS
2.nVidia or ATI, does not seem to make a difference, in fact nVidia had more known issyes
3.Turning Off Aero has no effect, nor limiting pre boot sequences such as prefecth and ready boost.
4.Though probably not related, has been so far documented only on Core2Duo processors...

anything that you can add that I have missed?

Re: FFXI + Vista = Stress-Induced Aneurysm?

do you have "Everest", I think I'm spelling that right, I could be wrong, I thought DXDIAG would tell me the MoBo model but I was mistaken on that,

Lavalys - Comprehensive IT Security and Management

I think the eval version is free, but if you have the full version it will tell you everything about your PC from Processor specs, to ram latency, to MoBo and bios info. I'll look up your PC model to see if I can find the MoBo manufacturer
