Whenever I attempt to make a new character, the screen blacks out. I bought another copy of FFXI, same thing happens. Anyone know how to fix this? Im on PC btw.

Run the config tool and select "Simplified Character Creation Visuals" from the Misc tab.

Yeah, the animated screen is too much for your machine. I had a friend who had the same issue.
