Okay, new question: How much more than what I payed (Around $100?) would it cost for a Geforce 4 ti? It was a birthday present, so I don't wanna make my dad spend too much more x.x; Also, what -should- be the difference between my old and new card, and what -would- be the difference with a TI. Thanks ^_^;;;

PS: It would be nice to get an answer by tomorrow (Monday), normally it wouldn't be an issue but in this case there's a bit of a time constraint...

I know it's after monday but I'll answer anyway.

For your first question the reason your GeForce4 MX 440 wasn't mush better than your GeForce2 MX is because the GF4 MX is nothing but a GF2 MX with some GF4 parts added to it. In other words it complete junk even if it does "SEEM" like a good bargin. (I don't feel like going into much more detail about it unless you need me too....)

For you second question you can get a GeForce4 Ti 4200 very cheap online and also in retail stores. I paid $135 for mine at COMPUSA. (<Yes, the overprice leaders.)It's a Gainward GeForce4 Ti 4200 Ultra/650 64MB that I've been able to overclock to 320GPU/640MEMORY......MORE Than worth the $135 I paid for it. My current FFXI benchmark high is 5411. I have an old GeForce2, but there's no way I'm putting it in to see what the score difference is, sorry. The score difference WILL be significant though, trust me~a GeForce MX card doesn't stand a chance against a GeForce Ti card, those are two totally different worlds.

Im not sure what you mean here? The GeForce4 Ti 4200 Ultra/650 runs at 250MHz and the V-Ram runs at 500MHz 3.3 ns.
What did you overclock? ~Doh~ I see.. 320 MHz gpu and 640 MHz vRAM. nevermind.

The main differences between the GeForce 2MX and the GeForce 4MX is the AGP speed. GeForce2 MX is AGP 4x while GeForce 4MX is 8x. If your motherboard only supports AGP 4x then the GeForce 4MX will only run at AGP4x.
AGP speeds Giga Bytes per Second
AGP 4x = 1.3 GB/s - 2.7 GB/s
AGP 8x = 2.7 GB/s - 8.8 GB/s
Also, the GeForce 4MX supports more features for textures and triangle rate. Unless I know the remaining specs for your computer I can't go into more detail as to why you did not see a significant increase in your performance. Withouth knowing this information I'd have to point to your AGP port not the video card as flawless has pointed ot. if the APG port is the problem and you cant upgrade the motherboard, make sure your next video card as more vRAM to make it increase performance otherwise you will be stuck to 2.7 GB/s transfer rate between your computer and your video card. You computer can only run as fast as your slowest component.

From what I read, a Gefroce 4MX is actually a Geforce 2. If you can, exchange it for something else. The 4200 is definitely a good choice, or a ATI 8500 which has the same performance but much cheaper. Note that they changed the 8500 to 9100 and lowered the clock/memory but you can still overclock it.

Go to this link to read one of the better laid out reviews for GeForce4 MX series graphics cards. The actual GeForce4 MX chip IS nothing but an overclocked GeForce2 chip. AGP speeds most likely has nothing to do with your problem and NO, not all GeForce4 MX cards are AGP 8X, the "AGP 8X" feature is something that has recently showed up as more of a marketing ploy than actual preformance gain. Most tests pitting AGP 4X cards against their 8X versions have proved that there is little gain to be had from this. (Yet, it is better to have 8X than 4X, just not incredibly...)

Go to this link for an overall comparison of most rencent graphics cards to see how they stack up against each other. There's even some AGP 8X cards in there for you:

Low to mid range systems: http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...120/index.html

~Osaka, I didn't mean any offence towards you by posting this. Please understand.~:sweat:
