on a side note Ive done some testing along with estyas, but my tests focused on areas


Me and estyas basically came up with the theory that all .dats have the information that FFXI needs to run nearly everything in regards to it.


So I dug thru ffxitool and found the .dats and file information for the areas. What this means is that once my testing is done I can tell you you how to visit an area that is normally unvisitable unless you complete certain missions.


I havent gotten to altaieu yet myself but I went there last night

just to do some crafting


I found the file info for battalia and changed it to altaieu

Some areas will limit your experience there. I tried to change sarumongue to altaieu but got only half the .dat info and was stuck.

I subbed blm so I could dezone out as needed.

FFXI Jpn to English converter complete
Well I'm done with the batch files. My DOS is very rusty so forgive the crudeness, it still works at the very least.

FFXI to English conversion 9kb, 3 files

FFXI2En1.bat - converts NPC text in all regions except CoP
FFXI2En2.bat - converts other text
readme.txt - explaination and instructions

Copy the .bat files into your \Square\Final Fantasy XI\ (older versions) or \SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XI\ folder and run them. Use them at your own risk. I tried to make sure they are all correct, but there may be a typo or error. If there are any, please let me know. I did use this on my own installation and haven't run into any problems so far.

This will not convert any CoP areas since I don't have it yet. If you are not comfortable with using a batch file, you can use Jei's list to do it manually. Do not use this file if you didn't download it from ffxionline.com (http://www.ffxionline.com/~upload/FFXI2En.zip). It is easy to tamper with a .bat and someone might throw in delete commands to mess up your system.

I put them in my C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SQUARE\Final Fantasy XI and ran them, but in-game just now on Japanese PlayOnline all the NPCs are in JP. :\

Hm, do you have a
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SQUARE\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\22\backup folder now?

About 46 files should be in there 1.37mb in size total.

You ran the files before logging on correct?

Yeah I have that folder, I use JP and NA PlayOnline, but edited registry so it uses my NA folder so I don't have to check 11,000 files when I run each version.

I tried it with and without my JP windower, no change :/

So you have 2 installations of FFXI, and your registry points to only one of them?

JP POL > using NA FFXI with registry?

Sorry, I'm not entirely familiar with how the JP POL method works.

I fixed it, I jsut had to run it in the SquareEnix folder instead of SQUARE, since thats where my installation reads files from.

Ah, older versions of the JPN client creates the directory C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SQUARE\FINAL FANTASY XI This was obviously before the Square-Enix merger.

Hope everything is in working order now.

I use the JP Windower, and I can't find out where to turn hardware cursor on, Start Menu > POL > FFXI Config = cursor on, but in JP POL when I alt tab to another window my char runs in circles? :\

I mean its an improvement from having no windower for so long, but running in circles is annoying :/

The changes to the text are awesome, all the zones I've been in so far work, looking forward to translator and the rest of the items, if you can find it, I know enough JP to carry a conversation, but not read all the items :S

Don't know much about the JP Windower, I use Azaril's v2.1 and haven't had trouble. From what I hear, problems with the JP Windower may or may not have something to do with XP Service Pack 2.

I'm still looking for ways to get the equipment and items to translate. I am trying to contact the author of POLUtils for some insight.

Currently no, with the tools I am using I haven't been able to find any .dats that relate to those. Still looking though.

Hopefully it will be possible. Triel and I are theorizing everything is buried somewhere in .dat files, all we need to know is what is in all of them. Jei is digging through POLUtils, but some files take a long time to load or don't display anything. That's why I'm trying to contact the author for another perspective since he would know more about decoding them. That is beyond my ability, I'm just a hungry artist ^^

im gonna dig thru the cop lists and try them out and see what I get, off to experiment.


Others not changed,@@@@@ from tests I ran tonight.

1. Items that appear as part of NPC dialogue.
Example is : Today we require a smoked Salmon( appears as
 (スモークサーモン))
2. Airship Dialogue with quest NPC's and the airship timegivers.

3. Moogle submenues like gardening and layout dialogue also not changed.



gonna go do some poking now.


ok UPDATE: The first of 3 Promathia sets are up

for part 1

You need to convert ROM main folder 3, subfolder 1 from japanese, to Rom main folder 3, subfolder 2 NA.

The japanese .dats are 3/1/39 to 3/1/52, 3/1/54-3/1/55
The NA .dats are 3/2/11 to 3/2/24, 3/2/26-3/2/27

Parts 2 and 3 coming later.
