FFXI PC Tools - Configuration and Higher Resolution!
A friend linked me to this site that has downloadable tools for the PC version of FFXI. One of the utilities handles your ingame configurations and macros. It can also open up higher resolutions such as 1280x1024, 1600x1200, and even up to 2048x1536 provided your hardware can even handle that.

Another utility is a clock/calander system that displays data such as Vanadiel Days and Lunar Cycles (important for guilds)
VanaHand

The download is 3mb - VanaHand.zip

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK! I do not have enough info yet on how it works, or how to configure. If you do not know Japanese, I highly suggest you do not try to install this application. As I translate the menus, I may post a guide on how to use it, unless another brave soul wants to. I also do not know how this will effect your existing files. My friend has installed it and gotton his resolution up to 1900x1200. Do NOT PM me on how to use this as I am figuring it out myself. DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK! I will not be responsible if you fug up your installation.

This is a clock/calander utility, also I have no current info on how to install and configure/setup and use. It has realtime clocks for the airship and boat. There is a stat calculator, and can tell you what levels your combat skills should be. It also has a calander for Race Gear times. I believe this is a stand-alone application so should be safer to install/use. Download and install at your own risk.

Proof positive
If you don't believe me about the resolution change, here is an actual screenshot. I had to recompress it since the filesize was too big to attach  Note the proportion, scale, and positioning of the menus and log windows. This isn't a regular screenshot that has been scaled up.

Wow no kidding! The options covered by the combo box control the back buffer horizontal and vertical resolutions.. this piccy is at 1600x1024 (1024x512 back buffer). Note the stretchy names
It looks alright imo.. I can get a good frame rate in sandstorm regions filled with multiple PTs now

Oh yes... But the real question is: Can your monitor handle it?

hmm... what not to do:

A) set POL Viewer to run in windowed mode
B)screwed around with resolutions a bit with vana hand. Took many tries, finally managed to set everything to max (back buffer and whatnot)... After finally finding out how, realized it was too laggy.
C)Exit FFXI into POL Viewer.
D)Since Viewer's windowed, got lazy and decided to change FFXI settings while POL Viewer was open.
E)Click into Final Fantasy XI to have it crash after clicking "I Agree"
F)Sets resolution again, thinking it'll fix
G)rerun POL > FFXI, crash again
H)Hoping it's fixeable by a reboot, shuts off computer to try again tomorrow because there's school tomorrow

--------------EDIT-----------------

fixed. Apparently, I can only reopen FFXI so many times before having to reboot >< using 1024x768 now, cuz any higher will drop my fps below 30, which is unacceptable lol.

Also, your windows anti-aliasing and anistropic rendering are carried into FFXI... I had anti-aliasing at 4x, and anistropic at 8x... Wondered why the hell it was so laggy lol. set down to 2x and 2x and now it's fine.

Hmmm...that's odd.
I noticed that with the expansion patch, new resolutions were supported in game. But since I have a widescreen monitor, when I run the game @ 1280x768, the in game graphics look stretched but the text boxes are okay. Anyone else with this problem?

Hi there

Not sure this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if this works with the US beta as well? I tried changing the res, but I don't think it had an effect :-/.
