That still doesnt excuse that you pirated an $80 piece of software. This kind of non-legit activity hurts the industry that I work in. I am a software developer and am directly affected by software piracy. This is the reason I freaked out when you said you downloaded it. I appologize, but for every peice of software pirated, other software prices must go up to cover loss. Yes, you may not see a large increase, but have you noticed that 10yrs ago software was less then $30 for a fun game? Now adays software is upwards to $65 and slowly rising mainly because of software piracy. Yes alot of the price increase is also to cover production costs and to make profit for the destributer, but most is because of non-profitablity per piracy.
The other thing is that Square just started to break even, last month I believe, and start moving in the direction of profit by subscribers. Since the launch back in November, Square has been loosing money on this product. In the gaming industry, it is known that any and all Massively Multiplayer software packages are a lossy investment because of software, development and server costs. Also, $10 is a minimum payment for a MMORPG, as most MMORPGs are at $12 a month. At this ammount Square needed 200,000 subscribers before it would make profit on this product. At $12 a month, they would have needed much less, but they decided to alleviate some of the client costs to generate more sales. Risky but it payed off for them in the end as they are now in profit. We, the import community, are part of that profit and they are well aware of this. There is no way they would not be aware of our presence and the monitary gain that we represent to them. If they wanted to make sure there was no way an importer could play, they could easily have banned our range of IP addresses for the US, UK, AU, or where ever we are connecting from. Unfortunatly this would also mean that they would have not been within thier profit margin for probably two to three more months and maybe would have had to cancel the FFXI project. They understand this and I am glad that they are still moving forward with non-regional releases of this software. They could easily keep the game in japan and make enough profit to be worthwhile. While importing this software is not legit by the fact that they desire the software to be used in japan only, we are not directly harming Square as they are making profit from us.

yea i do agree with u its just i dunno importing is soo much effort its not that i dont want to spend the money but i dont wanna buy it twice ynow.

I bought the game legaly, through a store that sells the game, and am paying the monthly fee with my hard earned money, not someone elses stolen credit card.
So i fail to see HOW what i am doing is "not exactly legal"

well lets see here.. I bought ffxi from a site not from the black market lol Also im paying the monthly fee with my OWN money not someone elses credit card. That is completely legal there is nothing illegal about importing this game.
