A few questions for those using the JP POL

Hi all, first post here.

I've tried doing a little bit of research online to figure out a way for myself to type Japanese (kana and kanji, not romaji) in FFXI PC and I've come to the follow conclusions:

1. You need the Japanese POL Viewer
2. You need a 106/109 Japanese keyboard
3. You need Japanese fonts for Windows

I have no problem with 3 (I use Japanese version of Windows anyway), 2 isn't that hard to come by and 3 I'll have to figure out how to get it myself. But before I go any further, there's a few questions that I coulnd't find answers to. If anyone could answer these questions for me, I'd be most greatful:

1. I'm currently using the NA version of POL and paying in US dollars with NA Cotent-ID codes. If I change to the JP POL, would I still be able to use my NA Content-IDs and would it "transfer" my account to a JP billing system and start charging in yen?

2. I know that you switch between Japanese and English input by pressing the kana key on the Japanese keyboard, but I've also read that you do not need the Japanese version of FFXI to be able to type Japanese - you only need the JP POL to "enable" that feature, is this true? From a recent thread (A poem about.... Life!) the poster claims you only need to modify a certain registry key, what key would that be?

3. Or have I been living under a rock and there is a much easier way to get around this typing Japanese problem that doesn't require the Japanese POL (waiting for SE to enable it in a future patch does not count)?

2. No, any keyboard will work. (Works together with #3)
3. You need to enable Japanese in the "Regional and Language Options" under your Control Panel, this will require your Windows CD or a download depending on your OS version.

Yes, your characters would transfer, because you still use your POL ID and password you registered with the NA version. Also, most credit cards calcluate and do the exchange rates automatically, so you will be deducted dollars as usual.

To switch between the languages you hit a "F#" key with shift I believe, it's in the tutorial. I believe, to type in JP, you need to have both POL and FFXI in JP. You may be able to mess with registry settings to change stuff, but I am almost positive that at least FFXI has to be JP.

Don't wait for SE, because they will not be enabling, I believe they announced this sometimes last year in an interview. Also, no there is no other way, you need to get a JP version of the game.
