Direct 3D or AMD
My system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
DMI Nforce 2 Ultra Infinity mobo
512 megs DDR RAM
120 gig SATA HDD
Geforce FX 5700LE 256 meg 8X AGP video card

My problem:
The graphics suck. There are thick lines that run through everything. Pixelation is rampant. It is not due to my the resolution settings in-game. I have tried them all. The only reason for this to happen, that I can conceive of, is that direct3d is not initializing. It is using the software to render and not my geforce card. I cannot change this. I have tried for quite a few hours to tweak both the game and my graphics settings to no avail. I've also spent hours online in tech support forums and every thread I have read on this problem has either gotten no response or some wild speculation that went nowhere. If anyone has any idea what I could do to fix this, I would be in your debt.

Someone else mentioned that other AMD systems have had this problem. If this is the case, and it is unrepairable, I pray I get my damn money back.

Hia Toren, ill talk to you in game if this doesnt help. AMD shouldnt be the problem, my 2600+ works fine. i find it wierd that the software would be rendering it, as i didnt think it was possible with this game. So, your best bet is to upgrade drivers. Upgrade your Geforce drivers (or downgrade and try that), upgrade your MB drivers, sound drivers, any driver that you possibly can. Also download the newest Direct X (9.0c may be out now) My question for you is this though. Has this always happened? And how about other games, do they run OK?

On another note, run dxdiag (start, run, type dxdiag.) There, you will see if theres anything wrong too, check settings. If something looks abnormal, post it

Thanks for the response.

Everything in dxdiag is fine. All drivers have been updated. Everything is as current as possible.

Still the problem persists.

*EDIT* This has never happened with any other game. I can run doom 3 but not ffxi... WTF?

what res you running in? FFXI by default renders in 1024x1024 background res. turn it up past 1024x768 and the graphics look crappy. see my post about running ffxi in hi res that should fix the problem

good luck

P.S im running a AMD athlon 2500+... it's not AMD chips there better then pentiums

I dont want to be mean but I already mentioned that the resolution wasn't to blame. I've tried every available resolution and it runs terribly on all of them. It runs terribly with or without mip maps, bump maps, etc. It doesnt matter what setting I change it still runs terribly. Considering I have well above the recommended system requirements, you have to see where Im frustrated with all of this...
