PS2 Network Adapter -> PC Via ICS Setup
Good afternoon - I have been working on this perticular problem for a while, and am turning to you folks in hope of perhaps finally being able to get resolution and get my version of FFXI running from my Playstation 2.

The current situation is thus - I am running an older HP Pavillion 900 Mhz computer which connects to our router via a D-Link DWL-122 USB wireless network adapter. Due to the position of my computer in my house, it is impossible for me to run a network cable from the router to my PS2, although I have been able to connect on a limited basis using a direct connection to the router at times. However, this is not a viable long term alternative, and I am hoping to recieve some assistance in getting Internet Connection Sharing running so I can use my PC's wireless connection to allow my PS2 to access the internet. I've looked over several of the guides regarding this, and none of the solutions posted have assisted me in my plight.

I am connecting my PS2 Network Adapter to my computer via a Cat-5 Crossover cable to the standard network card installed in my computer. Using Windows XP Home Edition, I have Internet Connection Sharing is enabled on my wireless connection (reccomended by Microsoft) and my Lan connection set to 192.169.0.1 as its IP address. My PS2 network settings are as follows:

DNS Server (Does not Aquire Automatically):
192.168.0.1
IP Address (Does not Aquire Automatically):
192.168.0.2
Netmask:
255.255.255.0
Default Route Address:
192.168.0.1

All other options are set to normal. I have these settings input because attempting to allow my PS2 to autoconfig simply brings me to the 'initializing ethernet connection' screen and it hangs there, never connecting. When I attempt to connect using the settings above, I have gotten two sets of messages - the first occured when I was recieving one packet (and one packet only) of data across the LAN connection, and it was a DNS server not responding message.

The second error I have been getting of late (an improvement, as I am now getting an average of 15 - 20 packets before this error occurs) is the POL-1556 (Network Error 598) Network is busy or there are connection problems error. I am not sure where I have gone wrong with the configuration here, as I can ping the PS2 from my computer just fine (pinging 192.168.0.2 returns all of the packets with a 0ms travel time) and I am obviously recieving data from the PS2, but ICS is not forwarding the information along for reasons I do not understand. Is there anyone who can help me with this issue? I can provide any additional data needed. Thank you for your time.

if your LAN connection is 192.169.0.1 and your PS2 is set up for the 192.168.0.0 subnet, it will not work....If that was a typo, here's what you can try:

1. Set your LAN connection to something other than 192.168.0.1.
Try 192.168.10

2. Set your PS2 to something other than 192.168.0.2

For some reason the default IPs don't work well. Also, make sure that you do not have the Windows XP Firewall Enabled on your LAN connection as this could conflict with any other Firewall Program you have running. You may also want to check your Firewall to see if it is allowing ICS traffic to pass through. I have Sygate Personal Firewall and it does not work with ICS. Neither does Black Ice. Try using Norton's Firewall. I've had success with this one. But above all else, disable the Windows Xp Firewall. It is a piece of crap. You may also want to check the HOSTS file located in your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder. Add an entry for your DNS IP with the computer name associated with it.

Hope this helps

If what Jinxie suggested didn't work, there's something I'd like to add on to it. You can try using the route command in your Command Prompt. You can set a persistent route from your PS2 and have it sent to your router.

Route ADD (IP of your PS2) MASK (Subnet mask) (Gateway/Router)

i suppose that these following numbers are for S-E servers, but try setting your primary and secondary DNS:

primary: 204.254.120.6
secondary: 207.148.192.11

Although it has been a while since posting this topic, and I'm now heading off to college where this won't be an issue, I do want to give a big shout out 'thank you' to you guys for giving me some ideas on what to try. I'll definately give it a shot once I get back home. Once again... very much appreciated, the help is.
