Invalid Registration Key?

Ok, After months of not playing FFXI, i decided to start it up again. When I went to re-register my account, it says my PlayOnline registration key is invalid. I call up tech support and they say my account has been closed and if I want to play again I have to get a new registration key, and the only way to do that is to buy a new game?! Is that true? Am I totally SOL or was the tech support guy wrong? I really want to get back into the game again cause a lot of my friends have started up, but I don't want to shell out another 50 dollars just for another key.

i got exactly 100% this same problem, and they told me to get a new pol cd key but i think the only way to get a new one is buying the game again , is there any other way to get one?
jesus why they dont just let me make a new account, id, etc and pay monthly again?

yea this is real dumb.. i guess for people who dont wanna lose their accounts:

after 2 months, and at the end of the third month, say like day 25, you can 'reactivate' your account before it goes to waste, and they wont charge you the whole month, just the 5 days left, so its the cheapest easyest way to prevent account loss, incase you decide to retire for a while

still, this is stupid coming from square its probably just to ensure that people wont abuse the account numbers in some ways, but they could atleast give you a new one, or just send you another pol disk, because you already payed the game, why the hell are you forced to buy it again? maybe they could sell pol disks separatly for people who actually already have purchased the game... it makes no sense having to spend that ammount of money, twice.

Have you reinstalled POL Viewer and selected "New Member"? If that doesn't work you need to go to S-E HQ in Japan and kick everyone there in the nuts.

POL Viewer is a free service as far as I know - once you register it you should be able to use it til the end of time (or so they have led me to believe from the literature I've read about it). The only thing that you're charged for is your content ID which expires 3 months after deactivation, at which point you should just be able to make another one.

yea i tried reinstalling the whole thing, still my pol cdkey wont work, i guess the only way around this is buying the game again which is incredibly gay
